Hello guys i just purchased an htc one m8 , when i came home and i was prompted to do a software update, when it downloaded it rebooted
into TWRP and the install wouldn't complete (why does it have TWRP??) my question can i remove twrp and return the stock recovery so i can do OTA updates

thank you

ps: the phone is S-on
Was your box factory sealed when you got it?
yes it was new ,he opened the box infront of me however so i dont know about the seal .. but i set it up and everything

is there a way of returning it to stock ?
You shouldn't do anything to it except return it and ask for a new one. It's your right. If the recovery was messed with, who knows what else it was done. Make sure that you open the seal. The nylon doesn't matter if it's on it, because they can reseal that very easily. What I mean by seal is the HTC factory sticker that seals the box. Remove that yourself.
OF course you can.
Just follow un-root process in XDA forum
TWRP needs an unlocked bootloader..this phone is not factory sealed...exchange it
Yeah Amhaz salesman sometimes try their phones before selling them, once they wanted me to buy a phone with personal photos inside LOL,photos not taken in the shop but family!!
Always ask for sealed box and try the phone in your car parked near the shop before going home
They could even swap the batteries and sell the original ones if they can. I always ask for sealed goods, no matter what it is. I don't trust shops and sellers the slightest bit.
With HTC M8 they can't swap battery as it's internal and the body is closed shell ;)

I know, I said "If they can" ;)
If it has a custom recovery (twrp), it means the phone is used, repackaged, and sold as new. Go back to the shop, confront them, and ask for your money back.
The delivery guy from elmazad is still the best option for non-warranty phones, he gives you ahmaz's price + you can open a brand new sealed box,try it and if not convinced not pay!

And what do you think he does with those open boxed phones that people don't like? Throw them away? Hmmm?
He gives them back to Amhaz and Amhaz sell them in the showroom ;)
thanks for the replies guys....i returned the phone today and got a brand new factory sealed htc one m8 with 4g :) ... the owner told me that all the non warranty models come rooted with custom rom :/ so i just asked for the one with warranty ( 1 year software and hardware)...another thing he said that many phones are being rooted (especially s5's ) so as to have 4g lte capabilities .....

ps: the phone is AMAZING
Wow, they just don't give up on bullshitting clients do they..
And how on earth does rooting is supposed to magically give you 4g LTE capabilities ? It's all about hardware in the phone and as I am aware of all s5's come with that capability.. There is a way to mess with IMEI number of the phone if rooted , so my bet is those phones are smuggled from outside , rooted and something done to their IMEI for them to work on lebanese networks , as because , from a friend experience when I unrooted his supposed to be " brand new " note2 N7100 and applied OTA update , his IMEI number got messed up and he lost signal , so he had an argue with the shop owner until he got a replacement.

Bottom of the story : IF IT'S A ROOTED PHONE , RETURN IT IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT.
I buy HTC phones without warranty and never got root
Hehe!
The same exactly happened with a friend of mine! He is not a geek and barely knows anything about phones!
He gave it to me to check it and copy photos and data from house old phone to this new M8! Suddenly when scrolling down I saw a SuperSU app! And he had an updated software prompt!
I told my friend that the phone is rooted and maybe messed with and told him to ccall the seller! The seller told him that they need to root it and install morelocale for 4G LTE to work!
I laughed hard and told him go tell the seller that I want a new sealed one and spare me of this bullshit!
He later on exchanged it and it ofc it had 4g LTE running like a champ!
I dunno why they do this shit!
If i didn't see this phone, my friend would have certainly taken the update and the phone would stopped working for him and they would definitely deny anything and go tell him that you probably messed with your phone! So he'll have to either fix it or buy another one!
IIt's a profit for the seller!
This is completely unethical and unacceptable!
Ohh and just a heads up to anyone getting the m8,i just noticed something the first One i bought ( the rooted One) had half the BoomSound speakers both up and down functional but the other half were just for looks (they were just artificial holes) :/
