Palestine Hey Lebgeeks I Have a question Does it Really cause any problems if i travel with a long beard? Because alot of people i know, said i should clean shave it So i wanna ask y'all is it really big issue if i travel with a long beard
AVOlio Long beard, is not an issue. Many Lebanese have long beards now. But what I suggest you, is to have the long beard only. Excluding all of the other religious clothing you wear, if you do. I don't know what they are called, but for example like the sheet they wrap on their heads.. Or any sort of hoodies or I don't know what.. Also the dress they wear with it, exclude that first thing. Etc etc.. Otherwise, if you don't, you're gonna be the center of attention everywhere you go. All eyes will be on you. And, I don't mean that in a good way. Cause it will be in a bad way, Centre of attention.
rolf Try and let us know. Police and other officials are definitly on the edge these days, and they're not exactly the champions of non-discrimination and human rights. But I don't think there is a high danger for you unless you have something else to hide. The worst that can happen is probably being annoyed for a couple of hours and having your name taken and written somewhere - probably to be lost among papers that will never be read again. Avoid taking pictures. Don't listen to people unless they are speaking from their first-hand experience.
Palestine This article just cought my attention http://2famous.tv/2014/01/22/lebanese-rapper-double-preacherman-arrested-beirut-mistaken-suicide-bomber/ I really dont know what to say
port80 No one should cause you any problems. As said before, you may be delayed, but it's no big deal. Just come wearing western cloth like jeans and a shirt or something. And that article is old and during a tenser time. He was released a few hours later and became famous because of it.
hussam Palestine wroteThis article just cought my attention http://2famous.tv/2014/01/22/lebanese-rapper-double-preacherman-arrested-beirut-mistaken-suicide-bomber/ I really dont know what to say But look at his outfit. If he was wearing a neat shirt and jeans, they would have just given him a few weird looks. As rolf said, don't take pictures. They will assume you are collecting information for someone. Try to travel by car instead of walking around, especially in Beirut. It really depends on your outfit.
Obviously I had a big and long beard, shaved it recently because I kept getting stopped at every damn army checkpoint. And I always got weird looks.
Johnaudi If you're christian and having that beard, just wear a neat cross-necklace and you're safe if anyone interviews or so.
Palestine Dont laugh guys ;) but this a picture of me and my beard Just to give y'all an example how my beard looks like
hussam I expected bigger to be honest. It's a lot smaller than the white rapper guy's beard in your link above :)
khatib1 You want an honest opinion: Shave your beard. You are most likely going to get heavily investigated at army checkpoints. Plus you might get arrested in most Shia majority areas (mainly Dahyeh like the guy in the link you posted). Also unlike what AVOlio said, no army member will heavily investigate a sheikh (sheet they wrap on their head..). Army members are too scared to get reported of disrespect of religion (media drama, job fired). It is the other way around.
bermudapineapple Don't worry, everyone here looks like they have never encountered a razor blade in their lives. Women included. Also from your picture, you've kept the entire beard, moustache included. You'll be fine. Smile at the checkpoints, say 'ya3teek l 3afye' and you'll be gold.
