Hi,
I want to become a mobile games and apps developer, I'd like to know what should I study next year in college? And how many years? I'm trying to do it in 3 years cause in my belief you gain experience from work, only how to think from the university ...
Looking forward for your suggestions,
Kind regards,
Mike

Study computer science obviously.
CS wont teach you mobile game dev or app game dev. it will set you on your way to become a software developer.
You can even start from now, check Corona SDK (coronalabs.com). It is lua, easy and a lot of tutorials.

Developing programs doesn't really need to be studied in college, and you don't study in college to develop "mobile games".
Isn't it the teenager geeky dream?:D
Like jsaade said if you're interesting in the programming field, study computer science, and if you don't find a job, then you could develop mobiles games. Because working as freelancer developing games, most of the time, won't get you a decent living.
You need to find a job in a company.

You can choose whatever major you feel like, it won't matter. You learn to program at home, late at night, fighting against your computer.
Choosing any engineering major will help in terms of employability. Recruiters tend to be impressed by these. But if you cannot afford it (in time and/or money) don't feel pressured into it.

You can try yourself at developing mobile apps now. Maybe you will find that it's not for you - or maybe the opposite.
But don't go too deep "solo" because then you will be demotivated to go to college, if you already know all the stuff!

Hello again,
After checking several private universities ( AUB, NDU, USEK ... ) , and having several problems in each, I've came to say that I'm in favor of the LU .
So what I'd like to know, is how good is the Computer Science's major is in the LU or Cnam ( Lebanese-French uni ) and how helpful is it, to proceed with mobile games and apps developing?
Thank you so much,
I won't bother you again :p,
Regards,
Mike

i think you need to do 'concours', which means they take the top x students, i am not sure though. I don't know about the quality also. Some say it's the best uni others the opposite.

I'm not sure which, but you can always learn online and get your degree there.
Learning by yourself is always better than getting taught.

@mike1: I have merged you new topic into this. There is no reason for them to be two separate topics.

Programming is all about teaching yourself stuff. Go to any university, learn the basics, but after the first year you're basically on your own, the universities are very good at selling you meaningless courses for money. There are many many ways to make games, there are also many types of games(top down, side scroller, online, offline against AI, web strategy games etc...) I am not sure how useful the courses in the university will be. I have taken a mobile programming course before in one of my universities. The doctor teaching the course did not personally know how to make an app. The course was there kind of an advertisement for the university, but it was not really very useful. So beware of false advertising.
I personally went into computer science thinking that by the time I graduate my university would have taught me all I need to program whatever I needed. Boy was I wrong. Rely on yourself, start learning from now! I taught myself how to do basic games. But really my area of expertise is databases and networking stuff. But none of that was thanks to my university.
