GreenM I've been trying to setup OpenDNS for my dynamic IP (my ISP is Cyberia) but without any success. I used telnet to change my router dns (Thomson TG585 v7) to OpenDNS but couldn't configure OpenDNS as DDNS (through dnsomatic) on the router for some reason. I then tried to use OpenDNS updater to update my OpenDNS IP but the IP that is reported in the software is 10.0.48.132 and showing this error: Your OpenDNS filtering settings might not work due to DNS IP address(10.0.48.132) and HTTP IP address (141.105.80.131) mismatch. Can anyone explain what is the difference between the two and why they're different?
nosense I was making sure that you have a public IP address since ISP's give private addresses unless you request one, I don't know alot on the matter but the IP (10.0.48.132) is a private IP and (141.105.80.131) is a public one. Sorry for not being so much of a help but I never tried to setup OpenDNS, though I do Port forwarding and web servers on my IP and use DDNS from no-ip.com and it works perfectly. I am on cyberia too.
wollyka It won't work. You are behind a double NAT. You have a private IP, and your public IP is shared one. I am on IDM and could not get it to work using a private IP (10.xxx.xxx.xxx). But when IDM switched me to a public one (for some time, then switch me back to a private one :( ) , it worked during that time.
MrClass You need a public fixed Internet IP to make it work. Unfortunately, Cyberia does not offer fixed IPs for ADSL connections. You'll have to switch to SOHO or HDSL.
