Hello guys,
It's time for me to decide what I wanna do, and I could really use your help!
What engineering branch?
I was thinking of mechanical engineering, I have always liked mechanical physics, and I am good at it.
Some recommend the petrochemical branch, for obvious reasons "us extracting petrol soon", or the chance of working in gulf countries...
However I am still not convinced it's not a stable job, petrol in Lebanon will end up like other projects, and working in gulf countries is a pain in the ass...
Any other recommendations would be appreciated : ]
What is exactly mechanical engineering?
What would I be exactly doing? I know it's a vast branch of engineering, but in general what does the job market need? For next 40 years, what's the expected branch to be in growth/prosperity?
As a mechanical engineer, will I find decent jobs?
Would I struggle to find a decent job? Would I be getting payed good? What are my odds to boom the field x ]
Does the university make a big difference?
I have good grades... I will be attending LU most probably or a private university if I get good scholarships...
Thanks for helping ! Extra in-topics are also appreciated.
Metalloy
mechanical engineer here.
first things first, there will always be work for any type of engineers, however lebanon is a small market and moat of us lebanese engineers tend to work in gulf area. I am working in KSA.
wether working in lebanon or in gulf area, you will moslty need connection and or "wasta"; it is a shame but from personal experience and from the experiences of my friends, you can attend as much job fairs as you want and submit CVs to all the xompanies out there, chances are you will not get any answer. I am not saying that to birst your bubble, i am telling you this so you can secure your connection from early stage.
Now a personal advice, if you do become an engineer, do not rule out the oprion of working in gulf countries; you simply cannot get similar work experience in lebanon. Lebanon is not an industrial country making the work experience very limited.
finally, i am happy that i took the engineering way, it is very challenging making it also very rewarding.
good luck
