  • Satellite TV cable mafia in Beirut

I want to understand why and who established this mafia rules in Beirut for satellite cables?
They use the DVB-C system which needs a receiver box usually ''Invex''
There are 3 types of receiver:
-SD quality
-HD 720p
-Full HD
I wanted to upgrade my SD to FHD receiver, they give me a name and a number for my ''street''
Called the guy who is so important that he told me to talk to his ''employee''.
I called his employee and asked him about the upgrade and price, he said 200$ while I knew my uncle got it for 160$ from another ''distributor'' just at 200m from my building. So I told him why not at 160$ like others and he said he will ask his boss for the price.
This was 14 days ago.
Since then I call the ''employee'' about 20 times per day but he never answer.
Called the ''boss'' too about 5 times per day but his phone is literally closed.
I asked my uncle to give me the name and number of his distributor, I called him, he asked me where I live, when he knew he said ''oh sorry but you are on X area, I can't give you the receiver'' I told him he will not know and that I will program it but he can't!!
I am 100% sure they use exactly the same receiver and a simple auto-program can find all the channels (tried it at my uncle)
So now I am obliged to buy the receiver from Aliexpress or Nabs, btw a chinese DVB-C FHD oem receiver can do the trick, Invex is a fake name.
I feel my area distributor is dead or in jail and his fellow employee sold his number.
Why on earth I can't by the receiver from another guy?
Do you know any shop that sell DVB-C receivers?
That's the way it is. I have issues with the power generator. I wanted to switch to another, had to get permission from municipality first. I called them, they said you can't switch. I asked why, they said because this is how it is. Everything here is mafia. You get screwed by someone with a product, file a complaint at consumer rights, next thing you know, they are filing a law suit against you because you are causing them a bad name.
So it's again the baladiye mafia corporation which is responsible!
I will never ever vote for them again
Are you confusing satellite TV with pirated cable TV?
Those cable providers are distributing illegally pirated channels and making lots of money out of it.
And they're an oligopoly with mafia tendencies, apparently.
They obviously don't care about ethics or legality.
You are complaining about their customer service...
Yep I know but apparently they are covered by either dirty politicians or Beirut's municipality.
Also I think like for ADSL if no major political breakage(Mr Hamadeh broke the mafias of Wise and Mobi in 2005) is made we will not have DVB-T in Lebanon, DVB-T is the same as DVB-C but using antenna receivers instead of cables,it's better aesthetically economically and ecologically.
Guy, what are you talking about?
Just Install your own dish on the roof, and get yourself one of the HD Internet receivers that open scrambled channels, and thats it.

Best options for you is Alexpress.. get a twin Tuner receiver. DVB-S2 and DVB-C and you get both Satellite and dish.
I tried it and it works.. the only difference is you get the DVB-C in SD not in HD but much better that the dish quality..
Aliexpress look like it takes forever to deliver it,let see if Nabs can bring it faster ;)

can you give more details please ?
lets say i have 50" hd 3d tv , what are my options to watch full hd or 3d channels (sports, natgeo, ...) and how much does it cost?
Im not sure for the Dish and installation fees, or the cable (depending on the length needed).
You should go and ask local similar stores. Usually they have billboards that says stuff like "We open scrambled channels like al jazeera and what not".
They would be total 1080p HD.
And they offer you with one year service of opening scrambled channels, after that you have to renew it.
Though i dont think 3D is worth it, i never saw an interesting 3D channel on my installed channels (Nilesat and Hotbird).

About the price, as we all know, they are all rip offs, so it differs here and there,
Im also trying to find the best price for me as well.
But they would be receivers between 100-120$ (which they would also give you a USB Wifi adapter for the internet).

thanks man :) .
No no,
100-120$ is the price of the hardware receiver itself,
If you buy it the first time, one year free subscription will come with it as default, to start opening Scrambled channels from servers, it needs internet of course and they should give you that USB wifi adapter with it also.
After that year, you have to go back and renew the subscription, i have asked here and there, the minimum price i got is 50$ for another year.
It basically opens almost everything on Hotbird and Nilesat except OSN.
(Though they have OSN packages, but those are with extra charges)

Bare in mind, this is all like "Illegal", somewhat like pirated games, But none of this matter in Lebanon.
You are opening the channels through servers on the internet. With no official cards or none of that.
And its great! :D

How much quota does this method consume?

@vegeta, why don't you sign up with CableVision?

If I understood the method correctly bandwidth consumption should be nothing to talk about, since they only need a to transmit the key of the requested channel. try few MB per day

I would pay a whole new installation fees + dish + receiver while the mafia cables are already here and isntalled,I just have to change the receiver that's all but the guy closed his phone forever. I caught him on whatsapp yesterday,he was online all day long but this stubborn son of **** won't answer my request for the receiver.
And Lebanese complain that they don't sell LOL
tell your uncle to buy for you
@Obviously and @haidcar
Yes it uses barely nothing from the internet, not even a MB per day.
It only transfers the keys to open it like @haidcar said, it doesnt stream the channel itself.
@AVOlio , it's funny because I have all OSN channels unlocked + all those new jazeera channels (beini) on nilesat unlocked. It costs 50$ per year. And tbh , it didn't even reach 1mb per day.

I pay 50$ a year without OSN for a shared server, What is the type of server you are using ?
