Let's say you've got an idea of something, an invention of any sort. How does one get it built? I've been checking some of the inventions on indigogo.com, and a lot of the inventors say they paid people to get their inventions turned to real.
Any idea on how to build a prototype?
That's very general/vague. I mean, depends on what your invention is. Is it a robot, is it a an application etc.
If it's something within my field of expertise, I would do it myself or learn anything necessary to do so.
If it is not, I would look for a partner(s) and build a team. If I had money, of course, I would employ people to do it for me.
Among the people in your team/company, you should have a business expert at first to build business plans and action plans, and do market studies for you and see how to sell the invention and all the details of business.
You need an expert in whatever field(s) you need. A newbie won't cut it, unless it was something very trivial.
You need to set an action plan, deadlines, and see how you are going to fund your startup.

Thank you, Obviously. Business aside, I'm wondering about the actual building. Let's say I want to build a watch, what should I do?
Unless you wanna do it your self, you could ask an engineer for help. A watch? What do you want to build in the watch?
I mean you could find the movement mechanism and buy it then build the outside?

Your question is vague but I think I understand what you're asking so I'll take a shot.
The proof of concept(POC) is usually built by the inventor with wires hanging out, whatever-works welding and an Arduino for example. The POC unit will look nothing like what the production unit would but aims at clarifying and validating your idea. Next, you would move to a schema for the production units. A lot of people use contractors for this so there are companies that will look at your POC and ask you questions and build the schema for you. After that, you can shop around for a fabrication house, usually in China. The fab house will work with you to select components to use in the circuitry which is mapped out in the schema and send it off for a first-run fabrication. That's when you order say-1000 units to check if your idea can work commercially. And you expand from there.
There are many variations on what I described. You can find contracting companies that offer all of this and does the subcontracting themselves for a fee. I hope that clarifies a few things and partially answers your question.
