  • Repurpose an old router

Hello guys!
I was wondering what can I do with an old Linksys WRT54GX4 Router ?

I tried to convert it into a repeater or wireless bridge but it turned out that I had to download its firmware from dd-wrt.com in order to do so.
Yet, the firmware for this model is not supported so I can't do anything about it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Yes I tried OpenWRT and unfortunately they don't provide a firmware download for the model of the router which I own.
did you try tomato or HyperWRT ?
I tried all types of "WRT" alternatives for dd-wrt. And none seem to have a firmware download for my router.
Anyways, I'm thinking of selling it or exchange it with another one. Do you guys know any store in Lebanon, preferably in Beirut that sells and buys tech devices ?
It's old and used , no one will take it .
keep it as a backup or use it as AP
Why not use it as a secondary AP?
The issue is that if I wanna use it as an Access Point, I must connect it to the main router of the house using an Ethernet cable. And there is no space in order to run a cable from the location of the main router to the desired place of my old router. Unless there is a way to do this wirelessly I'd more than glad to know how.
Hey Tarek! I just wanted to know how I can use the chillfire service. It's just a program where you can purchase your own wifi hotspot and in which you can benefit from it. I don't see how this is related to my issue. Please tell me if I misunderstood the concept of that service. Thanks in advance!
The software is a firmware , you can ask their support for a specified version for your router ...
Thanks Tarek! I'll look into it this week and get back to you
