Tarek wrotethe cheapest cisco router + adsl module ( you cannot find ADSL module now but the more expensive ADSL+2 wan module ) will cost you about 400 $ .. try a mikrotik routerboard instead
Maybe I'll try both
AVOlio wroteHey Guys,
Off topic here.
Can anyone please explain to me the difference between a Modem and a Router?
The modem is the device that will Transmit and receive data via the existing telephone copper line, while the router is basically a device that will connect multiple networks together.
AVOlio wroteSo,
The Thomson that i have, is a Router and a Modem?
Actually what we call a DSL/ADSL router is combo of: DSL modem+ Router+ Switch+ AP with sometimes other things like firewall...
DNA wrotei really don't understand why you guys buy high end adsl routers for such a slow internet and for only 1 to 5 connected devices,
i have 2 30$ routers that perform more than excellent. the dlink 2730u and now using TPLink TD-W8951ND
@m_zeid why would you need a high end router for such a slow internet connection and low number of devices, come on man your even thinking of routerOS and Cisco boards and modules, dude there is no logic in what your saying, you should only think of these routers if you have a 1Gbps connection that your going to route to at least 50 other devices.
go grab a 35$ router from pcandparts and your done and stop giving yourself needless headaches.
guys please don't waste your money on High-end Aps/routers/Adsl routers unless you got 200mbps+ internet connection or you wish to setup network storage and media streaming.
weird right?
Well at first I love experimenting! It's not that i need it's just that i want to try it. I know and as i said, it's an over kill.
I don't know why but I have about 8 computers in my home, one or win7 the other for win XP and one for Ubuntu...
Will do some security testing on these very soon, and maybe i'll get more + VMs
so not that much low number of devices, and for the connection i'm looking for a solution and the simplest one is load balancing with 2 adsl connections.
I'm currently studying CCNA and it's nice to have a router to play with, hands on not packet tracer simulation.
