Hello ,
I have a toshiba A205 , it freezes when I plug in the AC adapter but when running on the battery everything goes well .
Now i've done research about the problem and it turns that i've got an IC which is dead on the motherboard.
That IC is equal to 1200 microfarad and it could be replaced with 4 caps of 330 microfarad each.
Now i need someone to help me to remove the dead IC and solder the 4 caps .
Anyone could help ? or do you know someone specialized in soldering these stuff ?
Thanks,
AvoK95
I don't think it's worth fixing. If you buy the lowest end sub $300 Celeron laptop, it would be much faster, not to mention reliable than this one.
I personally don't like tampering around with soldered things on boards when it comes to laptops. They are not made to be serviceable at all. The manufacturers don't want you to use it more than 5 years. They are made in such a way that, they will fail somewhere after 3 to 5 years after purchase. If you really take care of it, as in take it apart and clean it thoroughly once in a while, it will not last you more than 7 years. I personally had an L300 laptop which randomly stopped working once in a while. I tried to fix it numerous times, but eventually I sold it for $150, put $200 on-top and got a new low end laptop, which was worlds better than the one I had. Even though the old one had 3gigs of RAM while the new one had 2GB, it was more than enough for regular day use, and in no way a downgrade in anything compared to the old ones performance.
Also, you can't rely on stuff you read to diagnose a computer without physically diagnosing it. You need to take it apart and test each IC, cap, resistors, diodes and everything one by one. Again, I personally wouldn't recommend fixing it. But if you really want to fix it, I'm sure DNA will be able to help.
