jQuery is good, but
vanilla JavaScript is good too! One thing that bothers me, is that when I look for solutions online, I often have to add something like -jQuery to my search query. jQuery is very widespread, and that's a good thing, but I don't like how people sometimes consider jQuery as a given, as a part of JavaScript, almost, and as something that everyone would want and would have in their project. I don't use jQuery (anymore) in most of my recent projects, and I like it this way, and browsers nowadays have much less compatibility issues, so it's not that painful anymore...
