  • Student Employment at AUB or LAU

In the fall of 2014 I will begin my freshman year at either AUB or LAU (still waiting for the acceptance letters).
My deliberate major after completing the freshman year is computer science.
The admission officers of both universities told me that I can get a part time job, referred to as "student employment", in the computer science department during the freshman year. Of course, the timing of the employment will be in accordance with my classes and courses.
My question here is: Is it worth it to take this student employment? Will I gain some experience and knowledge? And does this job make me a bit more prepared for my major? And also I've been told that I will receive a monthly paycheck. Does anybody knows if it's a good salary? Because my parents informed that starting from next year I am going to be responsible for my personal expenses and pocket money.
I worked at AUB as a lab assistant, and as a research assistant. For research assistant they will give you 6,000 LBP per hour worked, and any other kind of work 5,000 LBP and a maximum of 80 hours per month, so the maximum you can get if you work full-time is 480,000 LBP. But working 80 hours a month is alot while studying. Research assistant is the most rewarding job you can get, because you will work with a professor in your major on one of his researches or a new one for you (but not for the professor) and he will help you trough it.
Wow! Working on a research with a professor! This such a great opportunity and it's an excellent component to add on the C.V. Thank you for the information Ra8. But honestly,it's highly unlikely that I will get admitted to AUB because my SAT scores aren't that high.
I worked at the LAU Library in Student Employment. You get to work 18-20 hours per week, for 7250 LL per hour. Schedule is very flexible. You also get to study/work while you're there because you are not busy 100% of the time.

You can basically get employment at any office on campus. You will, in total, get around 350$-400$ per month (unless it's a month with a shitload of vacations.) which is, in my opinion, more than enough for your personal expenses (at least it was for me, and I even saved up some money.).

You could also work with professors, however they would need to be interested in working with you, of course.
