Hello, I have ordered a new EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked from the US, after ordering it I noticed that the minimum power supply needed is 600W, I already have a Thermaltake TR2 550W which I believe wont be enough or probably not safe and might damage this new card, so I will need to upgrade the PSU, here is my options:

1- My brother has a Thermaltake Smart 600W, I can swap the PSUs it wont cost me anything.
2- Corsair CMPSU-600CXv3 600W PSU 80 PLus Bronze from PCandParts, it has some decent reviews on the web.
3- Antec VP-650P 650W PSU also from PCandParts.

My desktop has the following to power: i5 2500 - 8GB Ram - 3 X Sata HDD - 1 x Sata SSD - 1 x Sata DVD-RW - 2 x 12CM Fans - 2 x Neon lights - no SLI plans in the future and no overclocking.
Please advise.
Your PSU is enough to run any card. I'd avoid thermaltake as much as possible as they're not one of the best brands on the market. I'd get the Corsair PSU.
Thanks Avo, I will order the Corsair CX600 from PCandparts to be on the safe side.
The Antec one is worthy of consideration compared to the CX600. I'd hold off and do a bit of research on the two, so far the Antec seems superior to me and you do get 50W extra (bonus).

Why are you afraid of overclocking BTW? You don't like free performance boosts?
Thanks yasamoka, but things changed for me at the last minute and I ordered the EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked 3GB instead of the GTX 770 mentioned above, I will definitely change my psu for this, now after some researches tonight I found that the CX600 has a single 12V rail with 46 Amps, while the Antec V-650P has dual 12 V rail with 28 Amps each, I read that single rail psu are better (in cheap range I am getting) and many users are getting random restarts on heavy load due to dual rail failure (of course still speaking about cheap psu like the cx600 and antec 650).
Nvidia recommends a psu with 600W with at least 42 Amps on the 12 V rail, thats why I chose the corsair vs the antec, I also considered the Cooler Master 725W extreme II then read in many reviews that its crap.
About overcloking I have the i5 2500 not the 2500k, I read that it has very tight room for overcloking and its not worth it, in additon to the GPU and PSU I will be having I guess I will be on the edge with power requirements, I wouldnt risk it.
Please correct me if I am wrong (highly appreciated).

Edit: will also contact CompuWorld today to check their XFX pro 650W If available.
I think getting a new PSU is a good idea. It doesn't have to be heavy (e.g. 800W+) but it should be new since old PSUs lose their efficiency and performance over time. Depending on how old your brother's PSU is or how old your PSU is, they might not be the safest bet for your hardware. Also take into consideration that new PSUs have newer technology to protect any parts in the event of a power surge. In that case only your PSU would die as opposed to the rest of your computer.

Also, overclocking is great. Your CPU is not unlocked but it can still overclock if you can manage your cooling and volts. If you aren't looking to change your CPU for a very long time (5+ years), then maybe overclocking isn't the safest bet.
Thanks tt400, both PSUs are fulling working but fairly old, therefore I dont want to take the chance, I already got and installed the Corsair CX600, it has more than what Nvidia recommends for the GTX 780 on the +12V rail (46 Amps, recommended is 42 Amps), its 80 Plus Bronze, which is good.
As for overclocking I have been thinking about it lately, I have the stock CPU fan, I never tried to overclock my processor but I will do it if needed.

Okay. I don't recommend overclocking on stock cooling but you might be able to squeeze out a little juice if your case's ventilation is good. Also congratulations on the 780. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and it has been destroying everything I throw at it. :)
Many thanks tt400, I am glad to hear that, cant wait for mine :)
