Are they effecient as a wireles interphone? Like between 1st floor and 4th floor

They're efficient, but they have noise. We used them for a while in events.

Don't know if you can find them at the local Radio Shack branch, but the Uniden GMR16362C sounds like a good option (but the signal coverage range is short compared to others, about 20 km).
