I am looking to buy a digital receiver for a dish I installed in Africa .. the price for a receiver here without a smart card is around 80-100$.
where can I find one in Lebanon and are they cheaper?

You can find it in any place that installs satellite dishes and all satellite gear and repair and such.

you are insane if you buy a non hd FTA reciever for more than 20$! i have installed 2 in my house 1 at my grandparent's 2 for my uncle and 1 for my friend and its been about 5 years for the oldest one and non have had a problem whatsoever.

tarek go buy a 17$ starsat or stongsat and it will stay forever.

it will cost you 140$ but it open most of the encrypted channel on nilesat , hotbird and astra

@tarek almost in every satellite receiving hardware store in Lebanon you can find a small chinese receiver for FTA channels for a max of 25000LL , mine is called "OMAX MINI" i think i had it for about 3 years and it is still working .

yes and no :), those servers work on a virtual smart card thing, you will need to be subscribed to one of the providers and you will connect via internet to their server to unlock encrypted channels.

yes you can watch all the jazeera encrypted channels (the normal and the hd)
and you can watch most of the encrypted channels on hotbird

I bought a dongle like a year ago and I used to watch al jazeeras with the HDs
now it stopped working
what can i do to like subscribe to those servers back without getting a new 40$ dongle

Get start sat 2000 HD ace. It has a working server for 1 year. It'll open Aljazeera Sports + ART channels on Nilesat. Other channels on hotbird.

It costs $80.

I have it, I used it for few months, but then it stops working when there is a big match. I recommend buying the official card of Aljazeera to enjoy the matches and that's what I did.

I have the same device but my subscription to those server is over
so now i just throw the receiver?

no,you can go subscribe to another one year period of those servers.
The guy asked me 50$.
