I don't know about you guys but recently I'm craving a sandwich, not any sandwich but THE sandwich, i dont even what type of sandwich Im looking for.

I keep remembering an episode of the show FRIENDS, where Joey and Chandler were in the car and Joey kept talking about this amazing sandwich

So long story short I'm looking for the best sandwich in Beirut and/or Lebanon
Haha, i remember that part where Joey keeps talking about the sandwich, wrapped in tin foil with meat and sauce in it etc (dont remember what was it exactly) but in the end of the episode Joey eats it, i think.

Humm, what to recommend you , it would be just fast and junk food though. In Bourj Hammoud, try the Fajitas at Canadian Burger or Shawarma at Basterma Mano as well as all the Kabab Sandwiches in the area. We Lebanese Armenians have a saying here, Arabs (a.k.a. simply the lebanese people) don't know how to make proper Kabab. Armenian kabab is better and more delicious. And we're talking all kinds of barbecue kabab like Kafta, tawouk, sheaf etc.

So i think you should try them. Most famous of the Kabab Snacks there are Kebab Mateos and Kebab Leon . (I prefer Leon).

I know i'm only suggesting you like to the Armenian side of the country/city, but that is mostly where i eat.
ya used to go and get the basterma from there
but that is not what im currently looking for.
Im looking for the perfect custom made bread, with exotic spices and the perfect cheese meat veg...

Something that does not leave you full or bloated but instead extremely satisfied and happy. Something that after you eat it, you would sit and say "that was an amazing sandwich"
I <3 FRIENDS!

here's my best sandwich.
Balony, cheese, mustard, and some tomatoes. Heated up.

Don't comment till you taste it ;)
Do hamburgers qualify?
I have to agree with port80 on the donner kabab, it is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, although the one I tasted was in Leipzig at a restaurant called Aladin. I truly wonder if it's the same sandwich. Another one was bagel based (Chicken Fajita: Sesame bagel, grilled chicken breast, cream cheese, lettuce, spicy tomato relish, red onions).

@port80: Any details pertaining the restaurant KBDoner is highly appreciated. [edit] Never mind, followed the facebook link, but thanks for the heads up[/edit]
@mesa177: Well I went there a couple of days ago and had 2 doners 1 meat and 1 chicken and I have to say I LOVED both. They were one of the best sandwiches I ever had.

Also don't miss out on dip' n dip for desert after the doner its very close to it and has some awesome deserts. (http://www.dipndip.com/)

i know like at least 5 people who got poisoned from canadian burger,as fior mateos, hes not as good as he used to be, kebab apo is both cleaner and more delicious in my preference, id also like to note being an armenian myself i think arabic kebab is superior :P
Döner, beurk.
My nightmare is happening, the Döner has arrived to Lebanon and is it touted as...

suspense...

A healthy, high quality choice!

@mesa177: Maybe you were lucky...
The Döner is the turkish version of the Shawarma, just like you can find, in groceries, a turkish version of Mars and Twix chocolate bars, manufactured by Ülker... You get the idea... :)
I really like the greek version, which is called pita souvlaki :) (lamb meat with yoghurt in great pita bread which looks like man2ouché without the topping)
There are good Döners, I'm sure - with real lamb meat and fresh ingredients, but the overwhelming majority (here) are served with a sort of processed meat that McDonalds would not accept serving, and which tastes more like fried mortadella than anything else, and a highly artificial sauce - you'd have trouble figuring out what it is actually composed of.
Looking for a shawarma is not a bad idea - because shawarma are still served using real meat, just like in Lebanon.

I had the same reaction. Döner advertised as healthy... Then I started having these visions of lebanized (it should be a word), döner places with air conditioning, free refill sodas, valet parkings, delivery services, ...

I'm pretty sure that's what hell's cafeteria looks like.
2 months later
Update:
You should try the Barbecue Beef shawarma from shawarmanji.
It was so good, i had the taste in my mouth all day! Even when it was gone, i ran and walked a little but, to make myself burp, just to have that taste back in my mouth again.
THE best sandwich I've ever had in my life is the Kabab Orfelli sandwich at Zaghloul (Next to Gallerie Samaan) ; it is so good, you want to eat it indefinitely

The meat is juicy (it is well cooked too); sandwich also has grilled onions in it, and is so clean and cheap. Forget about Barbar or Kababji crap; Zaghloul is king of grilled sandwiches

Seriously, though I went and had one there (Disclaimer: it was 4 AM and I was a little drunk).
It was pretty good actually, maybe the best Döner I've ever had (best döner, not shawarma, not pita souvlaki). So if you feel like having a döner it's pretty good actually, except that, normally, the Döner concept is something that you have at the corner of the street or on your way, not a place you drive to with the express purpose of having a döner...
And advertising it as healthy food is still ridiculous :)

Nobody answered as to if hamburgers qualify, but if they do, my best sandwich, without contest (well maybe just a little from Burgermeister Berlin) was a Moroccan Lamb Burger, at "Meat José" (It's not a place but an event that takes place from time to time)

On that topic, I had a real good kabab (maybe the best ever) at that kabab place facing (forgot the name) Classic burger in Monot. We actually wanted to have a burger but I didn't have enough money so we left classic burger and went across the street. That place is relatively new and has plastic cows mounted on the ceiling... hard to miss.

I'm also a fan of the kebbe sandwich (I think it's called orfali, not sure - I just go there and point at the meat ) at Mazar restaurant, dekwaneh.
There is Sandwich inc. tayouneh, they have really good stuff
My Favorite Sandwich (I'm kinda sick of djej and la7me) is : Batata (Fries) - Garlic (Toum) - Coleslaw (Salata Malfouf-Mayo) - Ketchup (Katchab) - Pickles (Kabiss) <- this sandwich tastes good wherever you buy it.
Cheese steak sandwich with mushroom sauce on whole wheat bread! yummy!
