Touch released a new service, 200 MBs for 4$
the catch is that it's only for WhatsApp so we can't use anything else.
How can they enforce the restriction? Is there any way around it?
didn't alfa not make the same a long time?
Chafic wrotedidn't alfa not make the same a long time?
No, they never did.

I think you're thinking about U-Chat. It's just a bundle.

*back to the topic*
I think 4$ is an awesome bundle for WhatsApp. Even though it doesn't work like regular data.
a month later
Alfa released it yesterday 2$ for 100MB
Shouldn't you able to bypass it using a vpn?
guess not, they probably allow traffic only to whatsapp servers.
try this at home:
- turn off 3G
- use wifi
- block port 5223
- check if whatsapp still works.

mtc probably opens only port 5223/TCP with that bundle.
Touch offer only for Prepaid.
I guess we're the only country where prepaid is getting more offers and cheaper than postpaid.
Although Alfa is both for prepaid and postpaid.

Did you try the above?

If it is a matter of blocking a port, then in theory we can setup a server to listen on that port, send requests to that server, the server then converts the requests to port 80 sends them on our behalf, then reply to us back on port 5223...I think
Well I setup a server and set apache to listen to ports 5223 and 5222 and a bunch of other ports google said were a good idea, I then tried to access the apache from my pc on these ports to make sure the whole thing was working.

And then I used my bro's samsung note that has the whatsapp bundle and tried to open my website's directory on these ports, but it failed. If anyone has any better ideas or likes to take it from here
Guys, away from trying to bypass the Whatsapp usage for general internet usage now.

This bundle from MTC, is it monthly ? or does it end when the 200MB ends ?
Today is 27th, if i have it now, will it end on 30th ? or it will still continue until the 200MB ends ? And when it does, i can just subscribe to another 200MB ?
Anyone ?
It will end at the 30th.

It's just like a 3G plan you have to re-subscribe.
Perhaps they are only whitelisting the IP addresses used by the whatsapp servers instead of simply blocking other ports. Your best bet is to set up a proxy on your computer and analyze whatsapp traffic to understand where the application connects to and using what protocols.
Guys, those who want to get internet access to other than WhatsApp, you have the regular 3G bundles you know?

Sheesh.
But this is cheaper way cheaper.

200MBs for 2$ vs 150MBs for 10$

What would you choose?
Aside from that. It's just fun to try and meddle with stuff like that, I have a big sense of curiosity for tech stuff like that. They are most probably just allowing the whatsapp ip/domain name through. I won't bother with sniffers. I am not a heavy 3g user and I was just curious. But if anyone discovers something new I'd be happy to hear about it.

That's what crossed your mind? I mean, thanks for illustrating my point exactly.

You still haven't answered my question.
My answer should be clear by now. I'd take the 150MB for $10 because that plan is the 3G plan. If I only want WhatsApp, and I'm planning to try, then 200MB $2 for exclusive WhatsApp use.
