Both are quadcore 1.5 Ghz, 2 GB ram, 16 GB internal space. The relevant advantages that Xperia Z/ZL have are the bigger screen (5 v/s 4'7 inches), the better camera (13MP v/s 8MP) and the fact that it supports 4G. On the other hand, Nexus 4 is around 150$ cheaper.

What about the overall performance (lags, restarts, bugs, heating...) quality of the screen and colors, quality of the cam's pictures (clarity, blurring, colors...), durability (resistance to falls and shocks...), battery...?

Please help me chose 1 of the 2!
Well bro I can reply about the nexus 4! I did not try or even see any xperia Z/ZL till now!

Nexus 4 is fast, snappy, great screen (i like far more than Samsung Amoled which is over-saturated) , responsive.
I also like the smoothness of the UI. It practically rarely lags especially in UI. Everyone who tells you that it doesn't lag don't believe him. Every android phone lags unfortunately! However the nexus 4 is THE LEAST lagging phone I have tried. Even S4 lags!
About battery life: it's not awful but not great as S3 or S4 or other new smartphones!

Now it all goes down to you and your usage:
Do you care about regular android updates and latest version?! Do you care about custom roms and kernels?! Do you like customizing and tweaking?! Do you NOT care about those gimmicky features and 4G!?! Can you live with relatively slightly lower battery life?!
If the answers are YES like me then Nexus 4 is for you! It's a wonderful device!
If not, I guess it's not!

Hope I helped.

Thanks for the feedback! What about its resistance to falls and shocks? I read somewhere that it is quite fragile. Is that true?

Also does it last 15 hours of regular use without need to be recharged?
I had Xperia z , it's UI is very laggy , specially home launcher , for the camera not that good but in general better that nexus 4 camera .
the phone become hot only while playing games but not very hot as galaxy s4 .
for the Advantages : sd card support and very slim phone , water and dust resistance.
cons: UI very laggy (I hate that ) , viewing angle so bad .
I suggest you to get the nexus 4 if lack of space not a problem for you .

it is weird because All reviews on the net agree that zperia z lags much less than S4!

is that before or after the upgrade to android 4.2.2?

I dunno about reviews but all Sony phones that I have owned or played with had considerable lagging.
I never recommend Sony for anyone except for maybe a girl which wants a classy design with an acceptable price and features. Nothing beats Sony in this.

well I hope I never know about falls! :-P I've never dropped it till now!
I know the back is glass so I take extra care for it! After around 3 months of ownership, I dropped my previous S3 like about 5 times! :)

However yeah it might be a little fragile so get a nice cover!
If you are a heavy user and you want, I can give you a special cover I got from USA but used it for like a week only. It was too bulky for me and ruined the shape of the phone.
It is the Mybat TUFF Case seen here: http://nexus4accessories.com/the-most-rugged-nexus-4-cases/
Nexus 4 will be the best experience and smoothest experience with always having the most up to date version of Android. The Xperia has a low end speaker, nice screen, slower processor (correct me if I'm wrong) horrible update cycles, and a slightly laggier UI. In my opinion, go Nexus 4. But Xperia has expandable memory, but that's the only advantage, other than being waterproof.

Thanks for the kind proposition! I will consider it if I decidde to go for the Nexus.

Meanwhile, is what I am reading on the net about the Nexus 4 overheating too much (like the Xperia Z) true?
Why don't you just wait a few months for the Nexus 5? It's supposedly coming out with Android 5.0.

I am current owner of the xperia Z, and i never had any noticeable lag on device, as for viewing angles true they are not that good but when view straight on, like any normal person using a smartphone the screen looks great. i rate my experience with xperia Z as 9/10
i am running build number 10.1.1.A.1.253

I don't want to wait months, I need to make up my mind in the coming few days!

Guys, do you recommend me to buy any of the 2 phones without a guarantee from the shop or manufacturer? Thanks for the advice!
kfc wroteGuys, do you recommend me to buy any of the 2 phones without a guarantee from the shop or manufacturer? Thanks for the advice!
Warranty means nothing when it comes to phones. Phones rarely and I mean rarely get hardware problem. They have software problems 99% of the time which can be fixed by almost anyone.

what about dead screens, screens that arent responsive to touch...?

if hardware defects are really rare, why don'y shops / manufacturers extend the duration of the warranty to more than 1 year as an incentive for buyers as they do with laptops? doesn't limiting the warranty to 1 year imply that there is a non-negligible risk of hardware problems?

Guys, will nexus 4 users automatically have their phone’s software updated to android 5 once it is available? Or the automatic update is only applicable to minor revisions of the software (such as moving from 4.2 to 4.3 or from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2)?

Hehe we will have it in 24hrs while the rest will have to wait 6 to 12 months or even more!
That's one more reason to consider the nexus! ;-)

I am too close to opt for the nexus 4. the few things that still make me hesitate are:
- the average camera as i am reading in most reviews
- No LTE which makes it not so future-proof...
- I need to secure a good case that protects it while preserving the shape of the phone. Do you know where i can find good cases in Lebanon?
- LG's warranty is too expensive.580$ Is it really worth it? Do you advise me to buy it without warranty? (430$)
Well it's certainly not the perfect device!
-yes camera is not great but it does more than I can even request! Not that bad. With a device of 16gb internal memory (actually 12 for use) photos with high resolution will eat space fast! I used to think as you are now, I ended up resizing all photos to 2MP to save space. 2 MP are acceptable on a PC screen too.
-you might be right but the question is for how much time you expect it to keep it!? It will take "at least" 2 years from now to have a reliable 4g network in Lebanon (don't forget 2g and 3g are still having issues). So you easily enjoy the phone for 2 years on HSPA+.
- well i bought already 2 different types of cases from Class. I bet you can find there something nice. There's also Amhaz and Private cell.
-yes LG warranty is too expensive. I bought it without warranty however that's your call.
