hey guys,
I have a small shop where i have to install some security camera with a DVR, but the problem is that i don't have any knowledge about these stuff.
What type of camera should i use (IP or analog What is the difference) and if i have to use a DVR or NVR.
I don't know the difference if anyone can help me or guide me what search for before buying. i am not worried about the installation, i have been told that it is quite easy.
thank you in advanced
Tarek
i can help you .. but please give me some info :
- your budget
-how many cameras
- are you able to pull wires ( cabling )
- do you want to access your cameras from outside your shop
- do you want high quality colored video or black and white ..
for a small shop i prefer good quality dome cameras on the inside .. with a small dvr and a small power supply .. reply back and i will help you out

well i was thinking about 4 cameras:
1 on the outside where you can see the cars and the number(off course this one should have night vision)
3 (i don't mind if they don't have night vision because there will be always a light source on the inside even when there is no electricity) on the inside divided as below:
- 1 over the head of the cashier where you are able to see the costumers face and the desk.
- 2 in the show room.
- off course i want high quality colored cameras
- i am able to do the installation (i might need some instruction)
- and i don't need access to my cameras from outside my shop
Tarek
you need the following then :
- outside camera : 1/3" Sony CCD IR, 380TVL, 0Lux(LED on), f3.6-9mm/F1.6 D&N Auto-iris, Vari-focal lens, DC12V, w/IR(48pcs LED), waterproof, aluminium housing.
vandal proof camera housing.
effective projection: 35m,
-inside dome camera ( good specs with low prices ) : 1/3" Sony CCD dome, 380TVL, 0.4Lux,f3.6mm/F2.0 board lens, DC12V.
Hi-Resolution: 480TVL
- DVR 4 or 8 ports ( get the 8 in case you want to expand later on )
-if every camera come with it's adapter then it is easier for you , or you can buy a small power supply costs about 60 $ for cameras
-you need video bnc cables and electrical cables in case you went with the power supply schema
-BNC tips or heads ( female and male heads )

Hey Tarek thank you for your reply..
I still have some questions, (i ask a lot and like to know all the details).
-These camera are analog?
-I would like to know how much this system will cost me.
-Also there is a brand i think it have a better quality "HIKVISION"
-While searching i saw something like IR its called EXIR it was a HIKVISION camera i searched a bit and as i have found its a new technology like IR i guess only HIKVISION have it
-i also would be grateful if you can explain a bit the difference between IP and analog cam, DVR and NVR.(is it just the interface or it has other difference)
Tarek
i am not in Lebanon now to know the exact price of the cameras..they are analogue.
the dome cams ( internal ) should be priced between 150$ to 250$ max
the external camera should costs around 350$
i suppose the entire system with high quality materials shouldn't cost you more than 1500$ ( with a small monitor screen )
Hikvision is a good brand but i've never tested the EXIR as it was announced in 2013
IP cam technologies are newer than analogue , they have different cabling , transmitting protocols , power over ethernet but they give better quality in general .. they are more expensive than analogue..etc ..for a small shop stick with analogues
NVR = Network Video Recorder (Usually captures images through RJ-45 Ethernet based cameras)
DVR = Digital Video Recorder (Captures images through BNC connections routed through popularly RG59/6 coaxial cables)
If you plan to use Megapixel cameras, then you may need a Network Video Recorders because as far as I am concerned, DVR's highest resolution is of D1 at 720x480 DVD quality.
If you plan on using standard cameras up to 600TVL of resolution then you can go the DVR way as long as the DVR that you pick can record at D1 resolutions.
NVR = Extremely Expensive to Implement. On some software can go as far as charging you a premium per EACH camera you decide to add to NVR (not counting remote NVR's you might plan to use for redundancies can multiply that fee), not counting the high fees per hour you will need to pay your highly qualified technician to address and map your IP Addresses and ports and configure your firewalls accordingly for proper video accesses, etc, etc...
DVR at D1 = Expensive to Implement (you buy a 16CH DVR card, you get 16Channels of cameras you can enjoy at no additional costs. No need to hire a highly qualified technician, you can probably do it yourself)
DVR at QVGA or CIF = Cheapest to implement.
for a small shop ..stick with what i proposed..small cheap analogue cameras with a small dvr to register your data and watch it in the same time .

thank you Tarek for the explanation it was very helpfull i guess i will stick with what you have proposed :D
Tarek
NVR is reserved for enterprise use , it is more powerful than a dvr but also more expensive and harder to implement .
start with what i told you and keep us updated

Hey i saw some HIKVISION cameras today at macrotronics website
i wanted to ask you about
"Hikvision IR Dome Camera DS-2CE5512P-IRP" this one for the internal cam
"Hikvision IR Bullet Camera DS-2CE1582P-IR" and this is for the external one i wont need any housing for this one, it will not be exposed to heavy weather (like rain) there is a roof where it will be.
anyway there is also a dvr
"Hikvision DVR DS-7108HWI-SL"
i wanted to know you opinion about these product are they good or no
Tarek
the hikvision website isn't working properly , i can't see the specs or the pictures.. please upload or something
also get a weather proof camera even if it's more expensive .. it will be better maintained against hear, humidity, water, dirt, etc
elie212
Tarek
the dome camera is ok ..you can get better quality but with a range between 10 and 20 meters with IR , i guess it is good for your case
the bullet camera is BAD ( both are bad actually ) pay a bit more for better quality .
the DVR looks ok , check how many hard disks it can support before buying .
