Hello, for the past few weeks I've been unable to download any torrents using bittorrent. The download keeps getting stuck on "connecting to peers". I'm a visp customer. When I use the setup guide of bittorrent to test my connection, I get "Neither NAT-PMP nor UPnP is enabled. Please check your preferences" UPNP is enabled on both my router and bittorrent. Could it be that visp is blocking torrent downloads?
Problem downloading torrents
yes it could be, but highly unlikely if you live in lebanon, if you live in USA for example that would be very likely but not in Lebanon, i suggest you try other clients like utorrent or vuze, and does the torrents you're trying to download have many seeds?
Hey thx for the reply, yea the torrent has 1725 seeders and 3584 leechers https://thepiratebay.sx/torrent/8645020/Fast_And_Furious_6_2013_720p_WEBRip_x264_AAC-JYKFischer wroteyes it could be, but highly unlikely if you live in lebanon, if you live in USA for example that would be very likely but not in Lebanon, i suggest you try other clients like utorrent or vuze, and does the torrents you're trying to download have many seeds?
But I'm sure that's not the problem cause I can't download ANY torrent even ones with a lot of seeds and few leeches, i always get DHT not working, and the trackers timing out but local peer discovery and peer exchange are working. I just get stuck on connecting to peers.
I tried vuze, it's the same thing except here DHT is running but the trackers are timed out! This is so frustrating...
would you try these sites please
http://www.zbigz.com/
http://www.boxopus.com/
http://www.torrenthandler.com/
https://put.io/
http://www.boxopus.com/
https://www.furk.net/
http://www.bitlet.org/
http://www.quick-torrent.com/
the first link is the most popular, i haven't tried any, but the idea is to use a third service, to avoid being blocked by the isp, if that turns out to be your case

It is way more likely to a configuration problem. To my knowledge, VISP does not block or throttle torrents.
Bypass your router and connect your computer directly to your DSL modem. If the torrent downloads normally, it means you've misconfigured your router.

EDIT: This is interesting, I went into my router enabled port forwarding from ports 6881 to 6889 (I'm no edimax) and suddenly i can download from zbigz.com but torrents i still can't.
Hello thx for your reply. I don't think it could be from my router since I've been downloading torrents just fine until a few weeks ago, and I haven't changed anything in it. But will try your suggestion.samer wroteIt is way more likely to a configuration problem. To my knowledge, VISP does not block or throttle torrents.

oh wait, i remember seeing a malware that damages the hosts file, last month, my cousin told me that she couldn't go to facebook or gmail, so i wanted to download avg internet security to scan the pc, but that didn't load either, it turned out that there's a malware that damages the hosts file on windows.
In your case it's highly improbable, but it is still a possibility, because you download torrents, torrents are perfect to spread malware and viruses.
So I'd suggest you do the following:
download malwarebytes
and Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA
do a full scan, once your done, download HostsXpert and click "restore original hosts file"
More info can be found here but i didn't use all the software posted there, you just need to follow the steps above,
It is better if you go to safe mode when your scanning the pc.

if you think its the hosts file you can delete and windows will build a new one.
look try putting your pc static private ip in DMZ in the router

The hosts file is not the issue. In BitTorrent, you connect to your peers through their IP and not a host name, so a damaged hosts file wouldn't affect you.oh wait, i remember seeing a malware that damages the hosts file
Ok so I tried DMZ, that did nothing. Deleting host files, did nothing too. Concerning malware I highly doubt that's the case, like you said, but will try when i have more time. I still haven't tried connecting my pc directly to the cable, but i did try to download a torrent on my nexus 7 using bittorrent and that didn't work either. So this limits the problem to either my router config or being blocked by isp. I just want my damn fast and furious !! :p And again thx everyone, I'm giving you all a headache lol
Contact your isp, and ask him.
