Hey guys,
okay so I raised my budget a little bit from $500 to $1100. So what is the best laptop I can get for such a price?
I am seriously considering the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 i7 version. :D

Any suggestions?
Go for it. The price is sweet. For 1100 you will be getting a laptop with same specs as that Lenovo.

It has to have a service center.
OMG, I haven't laughed so hard in years.
It must not be HP. HP gives you the best bang for your buck, but the overheating issues are a constant pain to live with.
HP's were like that. But newer models are good. Besides, no matter how much money you put, it will never last you more than 5 years anyway. It has reached to a point where brands don't matter anymore.
It can be paid for in monthly installments (with interest) or in one big payment (no interest); either way, the laptop must be physically present for me to check out.
First part has no meaning. How else are you going to pay it ?.
Second part, you can choose any laptop, and then check them out at places like Khoury Home. The reason why good laptops aren't available to check out, is because they come factory sealed. If you open the box, it looses its value.
In decreasing order of priority: Graphics Card > RAMs > Processing Power (more particularly, heat emission. A little less power for a lot less heat would be perfect) >Screen Size.
Microcityweb has the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500. An AMAZING gaming laptop with an I7 3630 8GB of RAM 1TB HDD and a GeForce GT 650M 15.6" 1080P screen ( or not ) With Windows 8 for $921+VAT

Here's how you can contact them

Here's a picture of it:

Note how the keyboard has red LED's glowing under it (If that's not awesome I don't know what is!) Also, GT650M>7670M. But not by much. As you can see here and here
Thank you.
You're welcome!
pcandparts told me that the y500 is indeed 1080p. Just thought id let you guys know.

Awesome price as well!

not true, i asked today... They told me its HD and not Full HD
the y500 has a 768p display but if it was me buying it i would prefer this display on 1080p display since this will help a lot with the frame rate and on a 15.6 inch screen 1366x768 looks just as good.
Yea i don't know anymore. The email that i sent them i asked about Acer v3 571g with the 730m and the y500. Acer is not full HD while y500 they said, is full HD.
Well, you guys just confused me .. But I am still going for the Y500 1080P

Some retailers can increase their price, depending on sales. PCandParts has the 1080P version for 899+VAT or something.

I ain't talking about "retailers", I'm talking about that Microcity has it for 1013$ TTC, not :"Same laptop at microscity web is 900(something)" ;)

900(something) +VAt. I never said the price was TTC. Also, like I said, they can change prices however they like. It's marketing, if something is selling well, they increase price which reduces sales which lowers price again. It's a never ending loop :)
Have some notes about the laptop:
- Lenovo uses Full HD to mean 1080p and not HD, it is confusing to some people so make sure of what you are getting written on the box
- Lenovo had a problem with certain laptop models of y500, the touchpad was changed to synaptics cause the one before (forgot the name) is causing problems (if the laptop has 650m if it has 750m which is the newer model it should be fine) so choose one with production date march 2013 and up
- I am not sure if they are selling the ME or the american version, cause there are some differences, and some points you need to research, first of, the american version has the ability to SLI using the ultrabay, while the ME does not, not a big deal if you don't care about gaming but it posses another issue .. , due to the SLI in the american version the hardware does not support optimus (they have a custom build hardware) the ME am not sure of it, this is where you need to research and ask the seller, cause if it has 650m (or 750m) and not able to SLI or optimus, well this is not that good of a deal get for the lenovo y580 (which has 660M and optimus battery life of 6 hours compared to just 3 and half in y500)

They're most probably the ME version unless they're imported illegally (Which I doubt those resellers do such work).
So the ME version doesn't have the ultra bay?
I think the problem with the touchpad was software related. My parent's laptop has one of those touchpads where it just stops responding or causes Window 8 gesture problems. Not really a big deal, you could just disable the third party software it comes with or just use a generic drive. Gamers are most probable to use gaming mice anyway.

Can you send me a link where the difference of the ME and the US version depreciate each other? :)
The ME version does have ultraBay but seems the SLI is not enabled, you can add a fan or a hdd but not an SLI
Touchpad problems are not software although software can improve, but they are hardware problems, ELAN made the first touchpad for the y500, than synaptic (the ELAN ones were called back and replaced with synaptic) just did some research and the ME version is only synaptic so no worry there ... and although there are many solutions, but I prefer when I pay for a high-quality machine to have all the options readily thought of.
As for a link, I couldn't find one with direct comparison, you know the ME is not a real interest for the rest of the world ...
I have the y500 with the SLI card (can't use it cause don't have the 8.5A adapter cause not found in lebanon) and as I understood from the guy working at microcity they do not have SLI in the version they have and neither do they have the bay with the second GPU ... So make sure to ask them before you get one ...
Dear Alk, are you sure about your info concerning the UltraBay and SLI? because ,for example, M2 said he could get me a GFX card from US to work with the Y500 that I bought here :).. And yes you are right concerning Microcity :)
