alk wrotepersonal opinion,
go for 3770 cpu no need for the more expensive 3770k they are almost same, and also for gaming you will not notice the difference, since the GPU will take care of everything, from physX to graphics ...
and no need for the ssd, your rig has 1600MHz maximum RAM speed so why need the very fast ssd knowing that most probably your rams will not be able to keep up (it would show in the windows index but will not show in gaming and loading you are limited by other factors)
for the GPU I was checking and 660TI is like $100 less and almost same (bandwidth is 64bit less but same GFLOPS same number od SM and ALUs a littel less power hungry cause of the bandwidth change) besides you need the high capacity since will be playing HD 3D so the gegabytes matter (670 3GB while 660 4GB), and no need for SLI unless you change the whole MB and get 2000MHz+ RAMs only then consider SLI ...
An i7 vs an i5 has no performance difference in gaming and in most applications. That's $100 saved. The GPU does not take care of everything. The CPU, RAM, GPU,VRAM, HDD and sometimes the CPU and HDD cache all work together. And all this are connected to the motherboard and PSU meaning EVERYTHING works together. Your theory is invalid.
There IS a need for an SSD. RAM is always faster than storage, it has to be fast or else it will bottleneck your entire computer. It's impossible for a storage device to be faster than RAM. Furthermore, the SATA interface doesn't even have enough bandwidth to be faster than RAM anyway.
1600MHz for RAM is very fast. Technology has come to a point where, everything is faster then it needs to be. You can get a GT 640 with a Celeron processor and you can have yourself a game rig. The Windows Index score doesn't mean anything. It was a small theory back in Windows Vista so that people can buy software more easily, when the software requirements needed index score. The project never succeeded , now we just use it for fun, just to see what's the bottleneck of the system. But it still doesn't give you accurate numbers, so don't count on it. The Windows Index doesn't even run automatically on Windows 8.
Don't you dare get the 660Ti, the 660Ti has a nice GPU, but the memory bandwidth is so slow, that the card itself is a bottleneck of its own. It may be perform good in games now, but trust me, it will stink after a few months. It actually stinks now. For a cheaper or equal price, you can get a 7950 which is a high end card, and can be overclocked very easily to be faster than a 7970 which is the fastest AMD card out right now. The 7970 is faster than the 680. Meaning for $300 you'll have a better value and faster card than a GTX 680!
What is a "gegabyte" If you can't even spell the word, how the hell are you providing such advice? Some geeks here who have no knowledge at all about hardware at least know how to use the correction feature on the web browser to at least type correctly.
RAM has NOTHING to do with SLI. a 2500 with about 4GB of 1066MHz RAM could handle 2 Titans while laughing at you. Intel's FSB is 1600MHz (Sandy Bridge was 1333MHz), you cannot slap 2000MHz RAM on any system. It doesn't work that way. Such high frequency RAMs aren't even meant for such use. They are made for extreme overclockers and to break a few world records. Or just to show off. The performance difference betweenn 1333MHz vs 1600MHz is very minimal alone.
alk wroteUr claims are technically correct, but as you noticed he doesn't even over clock ( already overclocking is bad enough) ... also what is ur experience with real equipment cause as it seems what u said is just a geeks translation of specs (not that it is bad but just this is theory and not applied to real world)
I wasn't talking technical cause anyone can go read what u said online .. how about if I ask u what is the most time consuming state in a CPU? And how does RAM actually work? how does it grab what it needs? Why is there scheduler why mutli core rather than high speed (for instance ALUs) and if we take ur words if ddr3 128 bits is fast enough how is ddr5 256 bit barely good knowing that in the end the textures, for instance, are not read hdd --> GPU rather hdd--> RAM --> GPU.
Don't be fooled by the numbers performance is not numbers give u example iPhone vs android (u will say os I would say RAM too)
I don't care if u consider me an idiot but when u build a computer u don't Judy read the numbers (common mistake)
Overclocking is not "bad" manufacturers even make hardware just for overclocking (Like Intel and AMD's K series of unlocked CPUs, and chipsets.)
Here's my experience:
Intel Core i7 3770K - Maximus V Formula - 7970 - 8GB Corsair Vengence RAM. Have swapped hardware with Yasamoka and done tons of GPU/CPU experiments. Me and him are always on reviewers website checking hardware which is great for value for the buck.
The theory applied in the geek world, and benchmarks are all taken into consideration to be used in the real world. Do you think out of all the people in world, you were the one to figure such things out ? LOL
The things you are typing are just making my eyes bleed. You statements are completely wrong and seem made up. Please do not type such stuff without any experience and without any knowledge. You'd sound like a clown (Again no offence)

alk wroteJust like more horsepower doesn't mean a faster car, same goes for the pc, all am saying no need to get unlocked if locked can do the job I said almost same and my point proven (no offense to the one who asked but if he knew how to overclock and all that he wouldn't be asking the question here)
As for the limiting factor of a of speed I didn't say it is the ram or the hdd or the sdd (yes the basic principle is hdd ram gpu if u want in details we can open another thread) and yes for experience I have been in this field since 1995 so been there done that from the khz cpu till now ... I didn't say rubbish I said performance wise the 3770k or 3770 will not differ and the 660ti and 670 have same gflops so get the bigger cause hd textures take more space .. if u want to see how space affects go see the 650 1gb mac vs the 2 gb one at hd graphics as for real life numbers check notebookcheck.com or the graphs in techreport.com
Anyway whatever enthralled chooses hope it would suit you price and performance but remember you don't need what you will not use good luck ...
A monkey can overclock. The theory is simple. Bump up the multiplier and restart, BSOD? Bump a bit of volt. That's all there is too it. A monkey could do it. And that doesn't mean he doesn't need advice. I have been using and fixing computers since I was 6 (Yes seriously) I'm 18 now. Have worked in the IT field for 3 years at a shop and been almost a year on my own. I know some stuff you shouldn't even know from the market.
Me, Khaled, and Yasamoka have been building rigs and workstations for people for as long as I can remember. Not 1 single complaint and every single build has been on a very tight budget and all turned out to be very balanced and very powerful monsters.
It doesn't matter how long you've worked. It's about having the correct knowledge. If you're not always up to date with hardware and knowledge then you have a value as good as dust.
Who told you that GFLOPS = performance ? There's the GPU architecture, there's the VRAM, there's the core speed, there's the VRAM speed and latency and memory bandwidth and tons and TONS of other stuff. Why would NVIDIA give you a card that has the same speed as a higher and more expensive card ? What logic is this ? :P
1GB Mac ? What's this mean ? MAC graphics cards are completely different. and 1GB vs 2GB ? What does that have to do with performance? You do know that there are 100s of 650TI cards out there right ? Each having its own memory speed and core speed and cooler... right ? Also, There's also a Ti and non Ti versions of such cards. And yes they are COMPLETLY different cards. There's also the new 650Ti BOOST card. Tons of stuff you don't know about lol.
AVOlio wroteBro, you are building a gaming rig right ?
In my opinion just Ditch the K in the processor, also ditch the cooler ...
I wanted a cooler also,so badly when i bought My rig,and i chosen a non-K processor, but all the guys kept insisting that its useless... i dont know why their doing the opposite with you.
and as you posted the price has already reached about 2000$, i say just ditch the K and the cooler.
Also if you going to order the Board from outside, save the money from the wireless adapter that you chose,
and order a Gigabyte GA Z77 with the Wifi built in...
Also, if you decide to get the Gigabyte board, i have the Non Wifi version of it, i also have a 5.1 surround system, and i am more that satisfied with its performance with the onboard sound. its this one
Link, same as the NA part from pcandparts.
That will save you from spending money on a sound card.
And you...Why are you always in the hardware section corrupting and confusing other users when you don't have enough knowledge about hardware to give such advice ? (Well you're still better than alk lol)
I am really sorry if I offended anyone but I am simply SICK and TIRED of idiots thinking they're some kind of "Computer Technicians" When they have absolutely no knowledge or wrong knowledge about anything and corrupting users with such knowledge.
@ enthralled
Look. Just get the following.
3570
AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 (Or the) one Avolio suggested if you want Wi-Fi. But the AsRock board has slightly better sound.
8GB of RAM (8GB is OVERKILL !!, you do not need anything more) I suggest you get Kingston Hyper X Blue or Red at 1600MHz.
Get 2 GTX670s if you want to game in 3D. Otherwise just settle with a single card.
Get any case you want. I suggest the CM HAF series
Get an 850W XFX PSU
Get a 3 or 2TB green drive for storage and games, and a 120GB or 256GB SSD for Windows and everything else.
You could get a Blu-Ray burner drive if you feel like it.
You should get a nice sound card if you have such good quality speakers. I'll let Yasamoka handle that since he has more experience with sound cards than I do.
No need for a cooler if you're not planning to overclock. The stock cooler is very good for anything actually. But you can get a Contact 29 cooler if you want to do some basic overclocking. Or better yet, ship a Cooler Master Hyper 212. They're just awesome.
I would get the Samsung 840 Pro as they are currently the fastest drives in the market.
Whatever you can find on PCandParts, order it, whatever you can't ship it.
For keyboard, go for anything that you think you'd like. If you do a lot of typing go machanical.
For mouse, it depends on how you can hold the mouse. Do you have a claw grip? or do you rest your hand on it. You have to look at the mouse and feel it. Specs matter less than your satisfaction.
Do not use your TV for gaming. I'll let Yasamoka handle that as well since he's better at explaining it.
You can go for a Maximus V series of motherboards and ditch the soundcard. Those motherboards have epic on board audio with audio grade level capacitors and everything.
