Hi everyone, 3 days ago Ogero was setting up a telephone line for a new shop in the same building I live in, when I got back home I noticed the internet was rather slow, so I did a speedtest and it turned out at about 500kbps, so I opened my modem's page and saw the speed was synced at 242 up 535 down. I did a simple restart on the machine and every time I do so it simple syncs at speeds higher or slower. So later I called Ogero, told them about my problem, on Saturday they sent someone to check it out, he checked the wires, blah blah blah in the end he quickly tells me the wire from my house to the phone box in the building's electric room is bad.
The sync speeds are crazy, my download speed can at one time be ~400kbps, and even a few times went down to as much as 34kbps!!! and now it's 103(that's dial-up apparently!).. what's weird is that the upload speed stays constant synced at 242 no matter what
so today an electrician came and changed the wire and replaced it with a stronger higher quality set. In the end however, my Line attenuation was lowered by about ~5dBs for download, but the problem still persisted. at one point I thought maybe my wireless Thomson modem was bad, so I tried my older wire-only modem and the speeds were still slow, first it was 256 ul 368 dl but about 3 minutes later it dropped to 256/256 so that ruled out a faulty modem.
I called Ogero again today, I told them I changed my wires, they did that "turn off your modem and wait 10 minutes" thing to me but nothing, so in the end they said they'll send someone again tomorrow
I have noticed that my SN margin for download is really fluctuating between working and very bad numbers, here are my Modem's parameters at the moment:
Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 4:12:16
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 242 / 103
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0,00 / 0,00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11,0 / 11,5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31,5 / 45,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 25,0 / 11,5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 13 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 2 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 11 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 8.754
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 24
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 11
the SN margin(Down) sometimes goes down as low as 5.0, which is really bad by definition
before these 3 days my connection was always working at the 1mbit/s spot since the upgrade, don't know what's causing this exactly, anyone have any idea or past similar experience with this?
