Yesterday i purchased a new laptop hp dv6-7205 itcomes with windows 8 and an nvidia 630gtm 2gb dedicated vga card. When i went to change the screen resolution the problem is i couldnt switch from the shared intel vga to the nvidia dedicated one and my laptop is using the intel vga instead :( went to dxdiag the only display i had was intel alrhough in the device manager both vga cards appear and the latest nvidia driver is installed and when i right click on desktop i can actually access nvidia propreties .
Any1 knows how to switch from a shared vga to the dedicated one ?

Do you mean you want to manually change? I don't think this is how it works.
If you launch a demanding 3D application, then the switch would happen automatically. Try it with a game, a stress test (OCCT?), GPU-Z render test, whatever works.
Use a monitoring app such as GPU-Z if you run the 3D application in windowed mode, or MSI Afterburner, after configuring the settings and turning the On-Screen Display on so that it shows you information such as GPU usage, memory usage, clockspeeds, temperatures, and framerates. You could tell if it's running from the performance boost you'd get.

It's not VGA. It's a graphics card. VGA is the VGA display cable/port interface.
All laptops now come with 2 cards, when using graphic extensive stuff and while on AC power, the Nvidia GPU is used. Else the Intel IGPU is always in use to save power.
