Hey fellow geeks, I need a tablet/kindle I don't really know what I really need, but what I want is a tablet to read PDFs (instead of buying the books) mainly for university, I thought the nexus 7 would be a good idea. I don't want to put lots of money into this, so the cheaper the better, as long as it is a good product. Any other tablet suggestions and where to buy them?
Thanks a lot.

I don't know much about tablets specifically, but I would strongly advise against going with an E-ink type display (kindle keyboard, etc...). Reading pdfs on those just doesn't work well enough. Other tablets like a kindle fire or nexus 7 will probably do a much better job.

So where can I buy the kindle fire or Nexus 7 and how much do they cost here in Lebanon ?
Thanks
Metalloy
kindle are available at Maliks.
I am using a coby kyros mid-7035, a 7inch ICS tablet , also available at maliks, for studiying right at this moment.
advantages:
-price: 200 000LL and If you have the Mcard you can have a further price reduction.
-weight, it is really light due to plastic construction not some serious design but still it counts.
-capacitive screen, older models were resistive, stay away from resistive.
-pdf are great on those.
- battery lasts a day easily.
-ICS is really good on tablets
-Videos on this is far better then watching on your phone and far more convinient then laptops.
-micro sd slot available
-usb OTG supported and comes with the USB jack, for mouse or keyboard use mainly
disadvantages:
-old specs, so if you're considering serious gaming just move along.
-sometimes it takes a while to respond to your touch, not always and waiting periods are not that long but it is there so if you're impatient by nature move along.
- mine have this weird problem where it always display the battery as 100%, unless I lock the screen for few minutes then unlock again, I get a correct reading fir like a minute then back to 100%, I don't know if it is a common problem but It doesnt bother me at all.
-no bluetooth
-no front cam or back cam ( back cam in tablet is stupid in my opinion but front cam is really a nice feature)
-occasional freezes, there are a reset button on the back of it in case it just froze and became unresponsive, all your data and apps will still be available, it is like you're restarting your pc.
-no googles apps including play store, but there are alternstive market apps so I'm really dont feel like missing something.
Verdict: If it is purely for Pdf and occasional video and web browsing, or any light weight task, I highly recommend this very budget friendly offering, but if you want more you are better of with the likes of Nexus 7.

the nexus 7 is very good option. 16GB should be around 250$. PDF, Gaming, Video watching, Web browsing, and you get android 4.2 jellybean + you will be one of the first to try android 5.0 key lime pie rumoured for may release.

Thanks a lot Metalloy, I'll go to Maliks now and check out what they have. But for the Nexus 7 any idea where I can buy it? I don't really know what are the good electronic shops around.
Thanks.
Edit: I think I'll stick to the nexus 7. The black and white kindle was for 200,000LBP, the rest of color kindle were above 400,000LBP. They have a 10" inch memup tablet for 300,000 LBP. I think the nexus 7 would be the best thing to buy (I don't have a smartphone, and I could make good use of a tablet.)
But where can I buy it? that is the question :P
Thanks.

I found a shop that doesn't have fixed prices and he has the nexus 7 for 280$, it's too much right? is it a rip off, the guy wants 30$ for himself?
Thanks

16gb or 32gb?
riqmarmes
16gb

The 16GB is 200 on the Play Store. But those are US prices, so anything less than 250 is great here. The guy is pocketing a lot more than $30 for himself, but prices are all about supply and demand.
Shipping one from the US would probably set you back around $50 extra(shipping + customs).

riqmarmes wroteI ll just order it from pcandparts for 269$ or is it a bad choice ?
bad choice,269$ + 10% VAT + 3~5$ shipping = ~300$
so the 280$ offer is actually better than pc and parts price.
Metalloy
280$ is a good price for it in lebanon.
