Crunchbang is great (it's the distro I use) but I only recommend it to users already comfortable around linux systems.
@Fischer: Changing distros often consists of changing communities. There are no reasons to fear this whatsoever. That being said a lot of what you've learned in the Debian world can easily be transposed to the Fedora family of systems. On top of that, ubuntu forums (unlike askubuntu) will gladly help you with any Fedora issue. You're just less likely to find an answer.
If you value the quality of a community, then I second the recommendation for CrunchBang. It has one of the best forums out there. You'll particularly enjoy it if you like minimalism in design.
If you really don't want to change communities but want to discover something new, take a look at
Enlightenment. It's a slick looking lightweight window manager. Installing it by hand on top of an existing system can be cumbersome sometimes, (compiling it from source is a major pain in the ass), so I looked for a distro that ships it by default. A quick search on distrowatch returned this:
Bodhi Linux. It's based on Ubuntu (so everything you know about Ubuntu is still valid) and configures enlightenment to you by default.
On the other hand, if you want a feature-packed visual bonanza, give
PinguyOS a try. (Also an Ubuntu derivative).
