Is it possible to change the hosting server and keep the website alive within a single day?
The website (created with PHP) is currently hosted by a hosting service on a linux server. I need to re-create the website using c# and host it on another .NET hosting service.
So i need to cancel the subscription and create a new subscription on a new hosting service.
But what happens with the domain name? Does it get removed when i unsubscribe from PHP web hosting service? should i re-reserve the domain name on the .NET hosting service? How much time will this take?

Yes, it's possible.
The idea behind it is don't cancel your old account before the DNS changes have resolved. DNS changes would typically take up to 24-48 hours to resolve(it's usually much less, but...).
So create your new application and set it up and then change the DNS on your domain name to point to the new location. After 2 days, cancel the old hosting account.
There are a few more details and some assumptions on my part such as your domain registrar is different than your web host and you don't care about the data created during the DNS changes and so on. But that's it in a nutshell. Ask if anything is not clear.
