I'm wondering what our salaries are composed of. There's the basic salary and transportation fees. Anything else? And by the way, how much do we get paid (monthly) for transportation?
Parts of a Lebanese Salary
Transportation is calculated daily, when you go to work. So if there is a vacation they wont pay it.
I think its 8,000 L.L per day.
At least legally thats how it should be, it shouldn't be part of your monthly salary, yet some company put them together.

In my case, it's composed of: basic salary, living allowance (which I think is a certain percentage of the basic), and transportation allowance. All three entities are fixed and don't vary on a monthly basis. I'm not sure if it follows the exact rules or guidelines set by the government, but it's pretty close I guess.
I know transportation salary is exactly 8,000 L.L. per day.
Do not forget taxes :)
For someone fully registered in the social security, it's somewhat close to this:
Monthly Salary = Basic + Transportation + Family Allowance (60,000 if wife is unemployed, 30,000 per kid) - 8% Salary Tax - 2% SS Tax
Here's the messed up part:
You will not notice the 10% (8 + 2) when your salary is around $1200 or less because it gets covered somewhat by the transportation, but once you start going over $2000, it becomes quite annoying (and worse, if you get bonuses)

If you'd like to laugh, I once had a raise that put me in an higer tax bracket that wiped out the raise completely. So to my employer, they increased my salary so can't ask for one for at least another year, but to me I was getting paid less.
Its more than annoying, its ridiculous. But then again, this is Lebanon....

So I assume the tax is only for the basic salary and is not applied to the transportation allowance... And transportation is 176,000L.L (monthly), right?xterm wroteYou will not notice the 10% (8 + 2) when your salary is around $1200 or less because it gets covered somewhat by the transportation, but once you start going over $2000, it becomes quite annoying (and worse, if you get bonuses)
Yes it's aweful.scorpioxy wroteIf you'd like to laugh, I once had a raise that put me in an higer tax bracket that wiped out the raise completely. So to my employer, they increased my salary so can't ask for one for at least another year, but to me I was getting paid less.

The minimum wage is 675,000
Monthly transportatiom is 208,000
You will need to pay 2% as your share in social security subscriptions.
As for salaries tax, you pay an amount depending on the tax btackets you fall im (2%, 4%,7%...)
You get family allowance if you're married: 60,000 for wife and 33,000 for each kid ( up to 5 children)

Just as a side subject, who said 33 000LL per kid is exactly the right amount? Probably someone who does not have kids.
According to this document anyone whose salary is less than 6,000,000L.L pays only 2% as income tax. Is that accurate? The document is posted on the website of the ministry of finance but I still have my doubts...

For calculating taxes:
You get a yearly deduction of 7,500,000 if ur single add 2500000 for ur wife and 500,000 for each kid then u start calculating taxes in accordance with tax brackets.
Amounts remaining for 0 to 6 m are subject to 2%
6 to 15m subject to 4%

This happens in every single country of the world. What makes you think it's just Lebanon?scorpioxy wroteIts more than annoying, its ridiculous. But then again, this is Lebanon....
Also, taxes in Lebanon are ridiculously low compared to other countries (like France for instance). The problem is not the taxes (which aren't bad in themselves), but what's actually happening with this money we're paying. Of course, that's another topic that doesn't belong to LebGeeks...
@rahmu: It would've been great if the taxes were everything we paid, but in fact we pay those in addition to "value added tax", which is a flat tax on everyone. And since we're a largely an importing consuming service providing country, we're basically fucked.
