  • Viber blocked on Lebanese 3G

OK, so what's the point of having any 3G if all of that is blocked. I'm running out of reasons to stay in this country.
I couldn't find any reference that tells that Skype is logged / monitored / owned (or whatever) by Israel ...
They blocked Viber because they felt that no one was using their lines to call anymore. Then when people questioned they directly threw it on the ministry. Pure bullshit
chosen2k wroteSo how do we bypass fellow geeks?
Download a VPN application.
elias.hourany wrotewrong a lot of people use viber
Obviously I was not talking about Viber usage.
they blocked it because lots of people started to use viber and other VoIP services to make calls instead of making calls which reduced alfa and touch profit, specially with almost everybody with a smartphone having a 3G subscription these days.
Whatsapp might get blocked but i don't see it coming since lots of people use 3G just for whatsapp,so 3G subscription will cover the loss in SMS traffic.

as for a having a workaround it's fairly easy, just use an VPN service to bypass the block,a good VPN with unlimited bandwidth is Hotspot Shield (it's ad supported but rooted users can easily block ads),another great apps which also compresses traffic is Viatun.
I think that mtc is blocking the samsung S Voice application. When I called them and confronted them about it, they were very verbally harsh with me and denied it. But none the less, I am sure that they are blocking it, as it works perfectly on Wifi, but no on data.
Anyone has any information on this?
Galaxy Note, running JB 4.1.2, Alfa 3G, access point properly configured:
1) Without Hotspot Shield: Viber works and I was able to call and talk.
2) With Hotspot Shield: Viber works and I was able to call and talk.

Before anybody decides whether these apps are blocked or not, perhaps you would like to share your phone make, software, connection, access point configuration, area, reception, network bandwidth (Network Speed app), and other steps that you took to troubleshoot and arrive at this conclusion.

@shekib82: What is your access point configuration? What other services work on 3G? What services don't work?
@yasamoka "Viber was blocked on the alfa and the touch network for security reasons and it's a decision taken by the MoT "

Thats what Alfa and Touch employees told me so yes they are blocked

what security reasons do they have?
I love how they just throw in accusations and claims as if they know everything, yet they don't show any proof to back it up. It sounds way too suspicious.
For androids you can just use the Talk app. (Google talk) I found it better for video/voice calls than skype or viber and I would find it difficult for Touch or Alfa to block google on the pretext of a virtual security reason.

This country is small enough already without them blocking stuff and closing roads and whatever...
And for the stupidest reasons on top of that.
Guys would you just check the screenshots I posted above! Nothing is blocked!

@chosen2k: they can simply block the Voice-over-IP (VoIP) protocols altogether if they liked. They don't need to block Google. Plus, Google does not use all of its servers for Google Talk, it uses select servers for that. Those can be blocked as well.
You missed the "on the pretext of a virtual security reason." part.

It's small, has a high rate of VAT and lots of people. Yet for "some reason" The "government" can't fix a stupid power plant, get decent internet or at least a decent police force! I mean if they get 1$ from each person every month, that would make millions alone! How is it that they don't have enough money where Lebanese people who get payed 500$ a month and buy something that's 400$.
And above all this, we have crappy lives, idiot people, lack of decent products. It's actually HARD to NOT to find pirated software or decent original products, even glasses. And it just gets worse and worse. I wish I could leave this hell hole.>_<

Wow :) all countries have problems and negative sides, and on top of that it's hard to leave parents, family, friends, and be on our own, but overall the world is big (duh) and has a lot to offer, and I think it does not make sense to get attached to Lebanon instead of experiencing the rest of the world.
