Dear Geeks,
Because I am new to Lebanon and have never done some hardware shopping, and I want to get a new desktop in a couple of years, so I want to know how much it will cost me. So here is what I want:
- Intel processor Extreme series with the latest tech and strongest of the series.
- Nvidia GTX X80 (X = whatever the latest series is)
- Some RAM, depending on how expensive it is... (most probably 16Gb)
- A nice big case with good cooling.
- Bluray reader. DVD-writer
- Some Power Supply
- SSD 500Gb-1TB
- Mechanical Keyboard
So I would like to know approximately how much money will I need to save for a computer with this configuration, and how/where can I buy these products (the cheaper the better :D )
Thank you.

6000$ ?
that, for what you asked for... for a reasonable pc that you wont even find a difference, around 1800-2000$
As for the exact parts, since you said " in a couple of years " then its useless to give you part numbers now, when you have the money post a thread and we will gladly give you a detailed PC for you to buy and explain everything
riqmarmes
What do you mean by reasonable PC?
And I don't need to know part numbers as you said, but I would just like to have an idea of the total price of such a product so that it helps me out to know what I am doing. (I'm a student, so money is a problem for me).
Thank you.

I am a student too basically,
what i said means that the specs you listed ( best extreme intel processor, best Nvidia gtx 80 range newest model - i like how you deleted the AMD solution from the equation even tho in some cases its better, 512 - 1 tb SSD etc etc ) are too expensive and you are looking at a huge amount of money to pay. You went beyond overkill on some components.
For 2000$ you can get a good PC that will last you a good while
riqmarmes
I totally agree with you Khaled, but out my own experience, I think that getting what I listed will last longer and make me happier eventually. My current PC config is core i7 920, 8gb ram, Nvidia gtx470, 3TB HDD (2TB + 1TB), 700W PSU, small case . It's still a good PC, powerful, but not enough for me :) I don't want to take any parts from this PC, I prefer to have a second PC (with only new parts).
And that's why I want to buy a new PC in 2 years and not now (the other reason is that I don't have the money yet)

Yea ok fine dude but like I said, if you want to go extreme and the best, you will end up paying 6000$ .. thats all i said and that was what you asked ..

1TB SSDs cost nearly 800, and the latest Intel Extreme Edition costs 1000-1200+.
That's about $2000 only for CPU and SSD.
Those $2000 can mostly build you an equivalent rig to what you asked, with the same exact gaming performance, and even fit in a more modest SSD, a bigger HDD, and a slightly slower CPU that can be OCed to mostly the same limits as the Extreme Edition.
If you know how to stretch a dollar, you can even go SLI / CF for such a budget.
Forget about overkilling. Maybe it makes you feel better when you buy your rig, but as soon as your hardware has been succeeded, you'll be facing deep regret concerning that new CPU that performs much better, gives you more features, consumes less power, overclocks better, and costs one third of the price you paid if not less.
riqmarmes
What would you guys propose for a PC for around 2000$? (OCed cpu / SLI if you want).
But I don't think there is enough money for SLI.

Intel Core i5 3570
Asus P8Z77-V LK
Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX
Cooler Master HAF 922
Cooler Master RS-850-SPM2 Silent Pro M2 850W

Intel SSDSC2CT120A3K5 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive
Gigabyte GV-N670OC-2GD 1.0 GeForce GTX 670 2GB DDR5
$1840.5 (Considering 9$ as shipping)
Note that the CPU isn't a K series, but you might still be able to overclock it.
That's what you WANT.
This is what I would GET
Intel Core i5 3570
Asus P8B75-V
ThermalTake VL800M1W2N V3 BlacX Edition
2TB WD20EARX
Stock Cooling
LG GH24NS90-24X DVDRW

Gigabyte GV-N670OC-2GD 1.0 GeForce GTX 670 2GB DDR5
Cooler Master RS525-PCAR Extreme 2 525 525W
$1231.4 (Considering 6$ as shipping)
That's $500 cheaper for the same system.

Can I go for the second build with Core i7-3770K and 2xGTX 670 instead? how much would that be. I would also like to know where do you get your prices, and shipping from where :)

The difference between the i7 and the i5 in terms of gaming performance are exactly the same.
Also, 2x 670s won't be handled by the 525W PSU.
Why do you want to SLI anyway? 2x 660Ti = 1x 680. A 670 is about 10% slower than the 680. With just a minor overclock it might be as fast as a 680.
Also, your current rig is fine if you ask me. I mean the 470 can still run pretty much any game at 60+ FPS. What I would do is just upgrade the rig to a 670, and add an SSD.
Note that 2x the same card doesn't mean double the performance.
SLI works like this. Half of the image will be rendered by one card and the other half by the other one. You will only gain about 20% to 30% better performance for double the price. Not to mention you'll have double the heat.
Also, both cards will work on the same memory. For example, if you have 2x 1GB cards, both will run at 1GB.
If you don't use the PC besides gaming, I would upgrade your current rig, or just get a 3570. I would only get the 3770K just for the overclocking capability.

with a GTX680 and i7 3770K, Thermaltake CLP0574 Jing, 3TB HDD + 12GB SSD and the 525W PSU will be something like 1655$ if I am not mistaken. What if I want to order online, is that possible ?
example This is cheap and good compared to what we're talking about. (I never shipped anything before and don't know about prices at all)
Thank you.

You know... You can't really decide the specs right now.
The parts you choose today, will be obsolete in only a few months, or even weeks!
I suggest you just save about 1200 to 2000 dollars and choose the parts later.
Also, I suggest you stick with parts from Lebanon unless the parts abroad are just really really cheap. It would be easier to manage, and warranty will be simpler.

Ok thanks a lot :)
