Knowing that in lebanon there isn't any wwe stores I decided to buy the product online using amazon and shipped to lebanon by aramex. Anyway I was just wondering if I am gonna get the product to my house or should I go somewhere to recieve it and if I am gonne get the agency's or the shipper's phone number so i can give him details about where I live. And most importantly does aramex secure safely the arrival of the product?

Back to the topic. I have shipped tons and tons of products from Aramex, they ship them very securely. Especially hard drives. They foam the sh*t out of it.
They're just great and pretty organized.

How do you ship with Aramex? As far as I know most websites don't ship to Lebanon. Borderlinx?

First: Go to your bank, ask for a new account made specially for internet shopping and has a maximum credit limit that you can recharge that account whenever you want to shop online, this account should not be connected to your main bank account in anyway for your safety, then ask for a Credit Card "VISA or Mastercard" for this account, a CC that will be acceptable worldwide, note that this card should have your name printed on it or some eStores wont accept it..
Second: go to Aramex and register with Shop&Ship service, it coasts around 30$ for lifetime service, you'll get 3 S&S Boxes, 1 in USA + 1 in U.K + 1 in China, make sure to look for the item as near as possible to one of you boxes, for example when you order an item from Amazon USA you gave them your S&S's USA Box Address, some items has free shipping to local country addresses, then when your item arrives, S&S service will ship it to Lebanon, within days when the packages arrives to Beirut's Airport, Aramex will clear them from Lebanese Customs for you and they'll ship it and handle it to the specific address you gave them when you register for S&S,,
Cost Calculation:
1. Aramex S&S service will charge you 11$ for the first Half-Kilogram + 8.6$ for each extra Half-Kilo + 10% VAT
for example, a package that weights 1.5Kg will cost 11 + 8.6 + 8.6 = 28.2$ + 2.82 = 31.02$
2. Aramex will charge you 10.000 L.L + 10%VAT (=11.000 L.L) for Customs clearance + shipping & handleing
3. Lebanese Customs Calculation:
EXC + CUS + OVT + STM + 10% VAT of "VLU+EXC+CUS+OVT+ STM"
VLU - is the value of your shipment, they wont look at your invoice, they'll estimate the value sometimes a bit higher or a bit lower than actual value
EXC - i don't know what is it, it's always 0 L.L for me
CUS - is Customs value, computers & computer hardware has 0% customs ! other electronics like cell phones has 5%..
OVT - a friend told me that it means Overtime, they always charge me 3.000 L.L as OVT
STM - is Stamps, it's always 2000 L.L for me
VAT - 10% VAT charge for the total VLU + EXC + CUS + OVT + STM
Now let's say you bought Computer Hardware "0% CUS" for 100$ that weights 1.5Kg from an eStore in USA with free shipping, the total cost will be:
item + U.S shipping + S&S shipping + Customs "EXC+CUS+OVT+STM+VAT" + Handling
100$ + free + 31.02$ + 20.000 L.L "0+0+3000+2000+15500" + 11.000 L.L = 227.530 L.L or 151.7$
Things you should know:
- Some items are subject to get Taxed when they are shipped from a State to another in USA, those taxes will be calculated within the total order, when you receive your shipment in Lebanon, you can send a print of the "Prove of Handling" to the Tax Dept. of the eStore to prove that your order was shipped and handled outside USA and they'll give you back the Tax collected.
- Computers & Computer's Hardware has 0% Customs, all the reasoning & excuses of the high prices is TOTAL CRAP !
PS. other electronic stuff are subject to 5% Customs..
- Shipments shipped from your S&S boxes will go to Dubai's Airport in UAE then to Beirut's Airport, then to Sin-El Fil, then will be shipped to your address, it may take between 5 to 10 days to deliver since the items arrives to your S&S Box, within that time you can track your shipment in your Account at S&S website..
- You must make sure that your items isn't listed in Aramex's Prohibited Items List
- Some eStores will ask you a prove of identity, a scan of your ID or passport + your signature + a scan of your Credit Card "edit the pic and leave only the last 4 digits!"
- Some eStores refuse to ship to S&S addresses, Newegg.com is one of them "last time i checked was in 2010"

If you buy a digital cam for 300$ with free shipping to your S&S address, you'll pay around 102,750 L.L at your door step !
Considering that:
- You get free shipping from the store to your S&S's Address (total order is 300$)
- A Digital Cam weight's 0.5KG (S&S Shipping Cost = 11$)
- Lebanese Customs will charge you 5% "Electronics"
Customs Calculation:
VLU = 450000 L.L (300$)
EXC = 0
OVT = 3000 L.L
STM = 2000 L.L
CUS = 22500 L.L (5% Customs on Electronics)
VAT = (VLU+EXC+OVT+STM+CUS) / 100*10 = (450000+0+3000+2000+22500) / 100*10 = (477500) /100*10 = 4775*10 = 47750 L.L
Total Customs = EXC+OVT+STM+CUS+VAT = 0+3000+2000+22500+47750 = 75250 L.L
Total Aramex Charge = S&S shipping + Total Customs + Handling = 11$ + 75250 L.L + 11000 L.L = 16500+75250+11000 = 102750 L.L (69$)
So that cam will cost you around 369$ to your doorstep..

As far as I know, Ebay only accept Paypal as the payment option and you can't register for Paypal in Lebanon !
I'll be happy if someone has any workaround for that "Except registering with Paypal from another country" !

I used to have a paypal account and have bought some items off ebay, it is generally safe. Check the feedback on the sellers before buying anything.

I accepted payment from someone and I just provided a false address. Unfortunately, once you hit $1000 spending limit then you can't use it anymore unless you connect a credit card or bank account with it. Thus the "used to" part...

In any case - I ordered the Nexus 4 through amazon and getting it shipped to me here through SnS (Aramex), what would be the VAT and Customs in this case?
If the phone cost is $500 and based on your calculation, it should be somewhere around $50, or am I missing anything?
