H.S wroteI am getting NAT type 3 on the Thomson modem and NAT type 2 on the Linksys one. I can't get NAT type 1 like i used to five days ago over a bridge connection.
@Trauma, what is your modem's brand? if you're a heavy PS3 user and you have the Thomson modem, i highly recommend changing your modem. Also you can currently get NAT type 2 if you make a bridge connection but you can only connect one device at a time.
Hi H.S. I have Thomson modem. Regarding the NAT type simple test it's really weird what you had, since results should be the same using any of these 2 modems as they both can handle NAT, unless each modem is configured differently.
As you know, Thomson modem is a modem-router combo.
About the bridge connection it will simply remove the router functions on the modem to get us NAT Type 1, so no port forwarding is needed.
But for the current NAT type 3 problem, you say that we can get NAT type 2 with a bridge connection, did you test it?
I don't think it will work since I currently get NAT type 3 with my current PPPoE
while I should be getting 2 in order for it to work. In other words if I already got type 2 the bridge connection would work to get us type 1 just if we had type 2 but I might be wrong if it will work or not for our case so I will test it to confirm.
I will currently try a temporarily bridge connection test just on the PS3 and I will reply back, hoping i get type 2 as you mentioned.
Meanwhile i found a good description regarding types
here:
NAT Type 1
You are either NOT behind a router/firewall OR you have already DMZ enabled your PS3. Your PS3 is connected properly and you shouldn't run into any issues.
NAT Type 2
Your PS3 is connected to a router. Your PS3 is connected properly and you shouldn't run into any issues.
NAT Type 3
You are behind a router/firewall. While your PS3 may be able to connect to the PSN and perform downloads/updates other functions may not work as intended.
