  • Future of Desktop PCs in Lebanon?

I was considering oprining a PC shop later, basing my incomes on PC parts, home build desktops and laptops.
Though I am noticing a great decrease of desktop sales in Lebanon because everyone wants a laptop nowadays, do you think we can still do money from desktop sales?
A true gamer would never go for a laptop..unless he travels alot/changes areas etc..

however, I recently moved from Laptop gaming, and now I'm building a desktop for high end gaming (my laptop cant handle much anymore)
No one aiming for heavy duty anything goes for a laptop. That's what I think. A laptop is supposed to help you get more work done when you're away, but you're not supposed to do, say, composite work on After Effects while on your plane.
tablets and laptops are sure biting pc sales, i guess the main fear is the combination of these two.
Surface?
Laptops are bit too girly for me to be honest. I'm not some university kid.
But yes, laptops will always steal market share from desktops among young people.

PC clients in Leb are divided into these categories:

1- Laptops only
2- Desktops prebuilt from brand names
3- Desktops built from parts at the shop around the corner (they are not technical enough to build a rig)
4- Desktops from Pcandparts
5- Desktop parts ordered from abroad or brought by relatives (excluding cases and power supplies due to their weight)

Your clients will be 2-3-4-5.

2- and 3- will be very hard to convince.
4- and 5- are the ones you have a chance with.

If you can ask for a lower price than pcandparts then you have 4- in the bag.
If your prices aren't too high, you might even have a chance with 5-, because the advantages you give are warranty (can you?) and a speedy delivery.

That said, I am pessimistic that this could work. There was room for one business in that field and pcandparts took it. Is there any room for two (competing)? Or does one have to close down the other?
90% of people will want laptops or tablets. Very few people would want a desktop. Some people who are gamers, or office PC or people who want a PC for their kid or something.

I wish Lebanon had something like TigerDirect.ca, I think it could be good business seeing gaming being more and more popular now
i don't think it will work, you see people in lebanon are all console fanboys and are too stubborn to accept that pc beats consoles, they believe pc has ps2 graphics...
you can't open a store like that when people actually believe more ram means faster computer and processors are not important :P
people ask me if web browsing works without lags on an i7 and 4gb ram...
the list is infinite,just ask avok95 :P
my point is that people are too ignorant in the country,my recommendation here is to open an electronics store and get interesting and cheap gadgets, all the money you will spend in filling your store with products is equivalent to the money of a small container of products from china+more profit from chinese products
my boss for example got tablets from china for 30$...he sells them for 200$

imagine yourself not being able to afford a 700$ minimum for a pc
isn't a 300$ ps3 more tempting?

personally I own all the systems and sometimes I prefer to play a game on consoles because developers are offering more stuff on consoles and pc is being cast out

get a Steam account then, you'll see how PC knocks out any console...
I Bought a PS3 in 2006/2007 and bought my recent computer in 2008
Guess which of the 2 still plays the most recent games?
Dont get me wrong there are alot of games i still prefer PC over Consoles (strategy), but the cost of getting a new PC which would be obsolete within a few years (unless upgrading it), and a gaming console which is guaranteed to last for at least 10 years (since release)
You have to go with consoles
i dont think its a fanboy kind of situation. its a preference

some people really feel like more serious gamers if they play on a console. i dont care whether its true or not but we are not here to judge

the situation is very relative.
some people dont feel the need to spend 1000+ for a gaming pc when they can go for a console at 300-500. most hardcore gamers are always pushing huge and expensive rigs. in another thread i mentioned that one can get a good gaming pc for somewhere around 800. you dont have to play games at 9999 x 9999 resolution with ultra max high super crazy details. at least thats how i feel.

others already own a laptop for example and just need something more gaming oriented.

like i said, its very relative.

with such freely available info online, ignorance is not really a major problem anymore. yes ive met people who couldnt believe that a pc can outperform a ps3 but they were few in numbers.

I am playing mw3 on ps3 and I have the cod elite premium subscription where the dlc's come way earlier than the pc's
I own a PS3 and Wii, they are both collecting dust, I only play Wii with my friends and PS3 for only a few games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (which are very worth it)..

but saying a PS3 is better than a PC is very debatable, the only part I agree on is the PS3 having its 1080p graphics available, where as an nvidia EVGA alone costs around $500, which is almost a new PS3 system by itself...

Then again, you can build a PC for $700 that can run anything at a good quality...this only applies to Canada/US, never in Lebanon.

tl;dr
Lebanon in it's poor state in the gaming scene has only to resort to console gamers for now, to people that consider FIFA 2012 the best game ever made >_>

Mobo is Asus H61-M LX.

Who says it won't open a game ?

I know people who play BF3 @1080P with a GT630.

The resolution of this monitor is 1600x900 (Budget compromise) Meaning it's 900P, meaning the 650 is MORE than enough to run any game above 40FPS.
you don't have to upgrade pc to play latest games, its just like a console, leave game settings on medium and you don't have to upgrade for a long time,im rocking a gtx460 since august 2010,i still play all my games on high at 1080p
