  • New Acer laptop not detecting NVIDIA GeForce

Hello, I have bought this new Acer Aspire V3-571G and I cannot get the NVIDIA GeForce to work. When I try to change the settings on the system tray, it says that I'm not using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU. I also installed this widget that says the temperature of the GPU, yet it tells me "GPU not found"
Also, I have Windows 7 Starter, if this helps.

And to a moderator: If this is the wrong section, please change it, I assumed since this is about a graphics card which are used for gaming mostly :p.
Most laptops nowadays have switchable GPU's, which switch from the integrated to the dedicated GPU or vise versa. The reason why this exist is to save more power so that your battery lasts longer since the on-board GPU isn't as fast as the dedicated one and uses far less power.

Right click on your desktop and switch your GPU. (I don't think you can switch it if you're using it on battery, so make sure it's on the adapter)

Also, this topic belongs to the hardware section. Don't use technicalities to figure out where to post. A graphics card is a piece of hardware so it belongs to the hardware section.

Thank you sir. But I can't switch the GPU, when I right click on my desktop, It don't have an option that is related to the GPU

EDIT: I toyed around with the Devices and Printers menu and it told me:
do you have nvidia optimus? Had the same problem.
AvoK95 wroteTry updating your drivers.
Thank you. I recall having a similar problem with a USB port.

babum wrotedo you have nvidia optimus? Had the same problem.
Do you mean 2 GPU (one integrated and one dedicated?)
If you do, then yes I guess. Or is it more than that
Updated the drivers. It didn't work, same problem.

EDIT: Upgraded my windows from starter to ultimate (via a torrented key). It's even faster.
Thanks anyway

Was your laptop sold to you without any Windows licencing ? If it was, then upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate will make you loose the money you've paid for, for the previous OS. By this, you can't get any Windows/Microsoft updates and be more vulnerable to security threats.

Anyway, did your GPU driver work at the end of all this ?

Also, when you buy a laptop with a problem, you should take it back to the place you got it from and not try to fix it yourself, because you might void your warranty.

No, hence the somewhat nonexpensive price for these specs (the catch was having no OS)

I don't really care, I actually had windows update some of my stuff. Nothing happened, still won't update anymore. All of Lebanon suffers from the same and everyone dealt with it.

Yes it did at the end. I'm 100% sure it's because of Starter. Because it gave me a notice:
The Optimus dual-graphic display function is operating system-dependant. If you choose a non-Windows 7 or Windows 7 Starter Edition, the Optimus function will not operate.
