Hey there I just wanted to ask how well is cable internet I have a person in my grandma's neighborhood offering 2mbps unlimited cable network for 40$ a month are these networks reliable? and are they good for online gaming? I am moving in to my grandma's so I might be taking internet from this guy so what do you think should I go for it?

Good for download, bad for gaming.

Cable is the most fraud service I have ever used.
Some points :
- You will never get stable speeds - Don't think that you'll get a 2M connection, your speed will barely reach 512K
- You will be more vulnerable to viruses and threats because almost all ISPs use a switch which connect everyone in the building into 1 network, not to mention that there will be to much stress on the UTP cable they use.
- You will suffer constant disconnections - ISP''s use UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair cable) as main cable when they should use STP (Shielded) or FTP (Foiled). UTP makes the connection drop constantly because of weather conditions and electro-magnetic fields around the wire.
- You will be more vulnerable to lightning shocks will will damage your hardware and cause massive malfunctions inside your PC.
- There is no such thing as unlimited internet in Lebanon. Every ISP has something called FUP, which means Fair Usage Policy, what this does is, it limits your connection's speed and makes it very very slow that you can barely open a single website. There is a limit before you reach your FUP mode, but only a few ISPs let you know the limit.
I recommend you get DSL from Ogero/IDM or Sodetel. Sodetel has an awesome offer now. You get a free modem and 2 months of free 2M connection. Sodetel also has the best offer at offering 2M connection with 10GB limit with unlimited nights for only 33$/month.
The reason I'm recommending DSL is because you''ll have a very much more stable connection and your network will be private in your home.

Cable provider have some kind of bad reputations in some areas but you cant be sure unless you try him, they have a lot of downtime due to the crappy hardware most of them use and especially in winter.
DSL is recommended, Ogero has the most stable ping so far if you want it for gaming, I was with IDM in the past, it wasnt good for me, switched to Sodetel, it was great in the beginning but when they dropped theirs prices after the upgrade, residential users kissed the Fiber and low pings goodbye, so I strongly dont recommend you to go for Sodetel if you want it for online gaming. The only DSL provider that kept a stable connection over the years is Ogero.
