I think everyone has heard about the the new slim model of the PS3. So what are your thoughts? I'm planning about buying a PS3, the MW3 bundle, do you recommend me to choose the new slim model or the current one? Personally I didn't like the "disc slide" to put the disc, but other than that it looks cool.
PS3 Super Slim

Priced at $269 (250GB) and $299 (500GB) in the US, while the old Slim is priced $249
Sony says the redesign is 20 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the existing model.
In North America, two versions will be available: One packing a 250 GB hard drive for $269, which arrives on Sep. 25, and one with a 500 GB hard drive for $299, which hits stores on Oct. 30.
That pricing scheme has left many scratching their heads. The current entry level PS3 costs $249 -- and with a new Nintendo console hitting in two months at $299, many analysts were expecting Sony to lower the PS3's price even further to woo consumers.
Instead, Sony is relying on the value proposition of the new PS3. The lower-end Super Slim model boasts a bigger hard drive than today's entry-level system (250 GB compared to 160 GB) and will come bundled with Uncharted 3: Game of the Year Edition, as well as a voucher for $30 of "bonus digital content" to be used in the free-to-play title DUST 514. The 500 GB model will come bundled with a copy of Assassin's Creed III.

i read some place that there will be a 12 GB one as well
man, i kinda don't understand why you would want to buy a new super slim blah blah one, instead of an old fat / slim for half the price. i mean does it really matter if it is slimer ? it is just going to stand somewhere in your house and never move again.
in my opinion buy a used one from someone you know, because anyway at the end of 2013 a new generation of PS/Xbox will be on the market, which means you are only buying this PS3 for one year, and i'm sure that any second hand ps3 can hold for a year if not more.
but it's just my opinion, do as you want

experts back in 2008 said next gen will be here max at 2010
I didn't believe them and even though were in 2012, I won't believe you

Well this is not accurate, from the beginning experts expected next gen around 2013, and they said it will be a longer console life cycle due to economic crisisballad wroteexperts back in 2008 said next gen will be here max at 2010

When Sony released the PS3 in 2006 it said it will have a 10 years life cycle! Even 2014 is too late, by then mobile phone will have better hardware.
10 years life cycle doesnt necessarly means that the PS4 is coming after 10 years, it means that the ps3 will still have titles launched for it for 10 years, and maybe also some firmware updates and such.
And no, you simply cannot compare phones to consoles, doesnt work that way.

Well,Sony surely know how to milk things.

i don't want to hijacked the topic but with the new wii U with a (kind of) similar hardware compared to a PS3, maybe games on WII U will also get published for PS3 even when the PS4 will be on the market, i mean if you look at it now, games likes Batman akhram city and the future Assassin's creed are on PS3 and Wii U, while possible new generation games will be published on PS4 and the next Xbox
so in a way, the PS3 is far from dead but won't be a high end device for long

I think they should call it "A little bit slimmer", not "super slim".
I can barely see the difference with the current one.

They have to; PS3 sold for a loss for a while.Devil'sAdvocate wroteWell,Sony surely know how to milk things.
