Hello all,
I'm looking for a laptop to use for uni. I have a budget of 600$.
I basically need it to have all the essentials not really looking to play games on it.
Want it to have a good battery life.
Any suggestions?
Any specific requests on size ?
There are great netbooks like the Lenovo S100 (I own one) has a 6-hour battery life and is only 320$
I got it from PCandParts.com and it has 2GB of RAM 320GB HDD and an Atom 1.66GHz 455 Processor. It's great for Uni.

I want it to be a 13 or 15. 10 inches just seems to small for me.
I've been searching and it seems that an inspiron is the best value for money, but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells Dell here.
I bought myself an Acer Aspire 5733 about 3 months ago, at $400. I belive they reduced the price a little now.
15" LCD, the CPU is intel i3 M380 @ 2.54Ghz. Not very powerful but much better than Celeron or Atom and well enough for all things except gaming. HD is 320 G I think... (I am not sure because I replaced it with an SSD as soon as I bought it).
It's rather light. The build materials are not great (feels like cheap plastic) but acceptable. The LCD image quality is also not great but acceptable. The mousepad is a bit too small for my taste. The variant I bought comes with Linux installed, and 4GB RAM.
Battery life is not great either. Maximum 4 hours. With windows 7, expect around 2 hours usage. But you can buy aftermarket batteries with double capacity, and they don't cost too much... yet I don't know if you can find them in lebanon.

I still recommend it.

I got mine from compuworld. You can buy it from pcandparts.com too.

From your description, I guess it's the same laptop I have at work. I have Windows 7, Visual Studio 2012, Office 2010 and SQL Server 2008 installed on it. Never had issues with it so far, pretty good laptop for such a cheap price. One thing though, is that mine has been upgraded to 6GB of RAM so I am not sure how much a difference that would make.

I also recommend it.
At work I have the Samsung 300E5Z, its specifications are:

Processor: Intel Core i3-2350 @ 2.3GHz
RAM: 2GB DDR3
HDD: 500GB
Screen: 15.6'' LED
VGA: 512MB
Graphics: Intel HD internal & Nvidia Geforce 315M Optimus
OS: Windows 7

Came with a mouse and laptop bag
It was for 499$ from Sami El-Kotob in Saida.

I can say that for typical day-to-day work it's performance is good, and it has excellent battery life (up to 6 hours). However, I would rather have had a laptop with better memory specs.

Non the less, I recommend it for a uni student.
