Hitman6267 Hello, I'm a IDM ADSL user, I have an old router (Zhone) from a previous ISP. I'm using the IDM supplied router as my main router (i.e. it's connected to the phone line). I connected the Zhone router using a network cable to the IDM one. Both have wifi capabilities so the point is to have more wifi coverage. IPs: Zhone: 192.168.1.1 IDM: 192.168.1.254 The problem is when I some time connect to the network (wirelessly via Ipad or through ethernet when I boot up my PC) the device I'm using uses 192.168.1.1 as the gateway, DNS provider... and hence I won't have internet. Is there a way to set-up my network where the Zhone router is just used as a wifi access point? I'm hopping there'll be a simple trick like assigning the IDM router the IP 192.168.1.1 and since 1 comes before 254 it'll be the "main" router.
ryeobot Turn off DHCP server on the Zhone and connect it to the IDM router via the LAN port (don't use WAN). It will get an IP address as supplied by the IDM router and should route all wireless traffic correctly.
Hitman6267 thank you! Just disabled DHCP and it's already connected via network cable so I'm going to try it throughout the day and see if it worked.
Tarek yes , it should be disabled so the router will act like an AP .. the DHCP on the Zhone doesnt matter as long as the natting is disabled but it is better not to turn it on
