It's better if you buy a new newer generation card , which will be the same price and same performance.
A GTX 570 has almost the same performance as a GTX 480. It would cost around 350$ used and will draw less power. Not to mention run a lot cooler.
A GTX 670 has better performance than a 580 in some games and costs around 580$. It uses a LOT less power compared to a 570 or a 480 because of the new 28nm architecture (The 570 uses the 45nm architecture) runs a lot cooler as well. So you cn use a smaller power supply and have a lot less heat.

Always aim for newer parts. A lower end new part is better than a higher end low part.
thanks for the advice any idea where a used gtx 570 can be found for that price ?
ROG store is selling New, Warranty included gtx 480s for like 380$s or something. With a little oc, you will get the 570 performance.
True the prices of 570s have indeed dropped, so i suggest waiting for him, or ask him, maybe he can muster a deal or something.
dont remind me :p im still mourning the fact that the gtx 480 from rog needs 20 days and i cant wait that long :p
Barney stinson: If the card is LEGEN- wait for it- DARY... I guess youll have to WAIT FO-wait for it- R IT.
LOL ,ive been pc-less a month like hell im waiting :p whatever barney says :p
option A: cpu: i5-3550
vga: used 480 or new sapphire 7850 oc
option B: cpu :i7-2700k
vga: manli gtx 285 for a 100 dollars
what do you think ?
Well the cpus are quit different targets. If you plan on ocing or not.

Option A will give you better fps results, coupled with 7850 lower heat/noise/power consumption. Both cards are almost equal (7850 and 480).

Option B has an overclockable cpu, but an old gpu thats lacking.
What is the motherboard? If you can overclock, get the 2600k, 100mhz isnt worth it.

Also since your saving, thus your waiting ;) ;)...
Trust me it is so worth the wait. Also if you're going to use the PC for just gaming , a 3770 will be a waste of money. Get an i5 3570 because the difference between the i5 and the i7 is HT (Hyper-Threading), this has zero performance difference. This saves you 120$ for a better graphics card.
Also if you're going to go for the new architecture don't use the old chipset. Get the Asrock Z77 Pro3 from ROG (Costs 200$) The reason to buy a Z77 chipset is that it is optimized to be used with new Ivy Bridge CPU architecture. It has 1600MHz memory controller and PCI-E 3.0. Paying that much money on an old chipset is just, stupid.
So that's 360$ for the CPU 200$ for the motherboard, 60$ for 8GB of ram, and as for the graphics card , get the HD 7870 from PCandParts. The HD 7870 is as fast as the 580, can run on a 500W PSU and run VERY cool.

This thread might help you out aswell.
dude.im on a budget of a 550 dollars, which need to cover the cpu and graphics card , i already have the mobo
geforce8500 wrotedude.im on a budget of a 550 dollars, which need to cover the cpu and graphics card , i already have the mobo
What CPU do you currently have ? Because Sandy Bridge is not worth upgrading to Ivy Bridge. Both have the same performance , Ivy bridge just comes with a smaller die, but the temps are even the same , so upgrading would be useless.
Just get a good GPU.
no cpu ,building a new rig ,still have 550 dollars that need to cover the cpu and the gpu,and its for gaming

يا ريت. Performance is within 5% higher, temps are higher when you OC due to the usage of thermal paste instead of solder between the cores and heatspreader, and power consumption would shoot back up due to high temps as current leakage increases. Only obvious advantage is PCI-E3.0 according to what I know, and probably higher clocks when you go with water cooling (hello, X79 & i7 3930K!)
Well dp67bg board is no slouch. I was able to oc 2500k to 4.5 with no tweaking (took me 3min to do it). But since your on a budget get an i5 from sb series. The cheapest i5 will cost u 200-+ that leaves you with 250$ which i tough. You wont be able to go highend cards. Cheapest alternatives is gtx 480, or msi gtx 570 tf3, 380$ and 400$s respectively (i asked him yesterday but forgot to post). Inanycase am sure you can save alittle more or get lower end card.
Get the i5-3450 193$ + VAT at Pc and Parts, it's just clocked lower than a 3570
alright il go for the 3450 but where did you get the price of the gtx 480 and 570 ?
Forget about the 480 and the 570, get a new architecture card. A lower end 28nm GPU has the same performance as an older architecture GPU.
Get the HD7870 or the HD7850 , the HD7870 has almost the same performance as a GTX 580 and costs half the price.
You can always wait for the 660Ti , which is due at the end of this month or the middle of next month. It's gonna cost around 350$ , but for the non- Ti version it costs 250$
