Hello,
I have installed a repeater at my grandma's house which is only a street away from our house, that said it gets signal from our wireless router at home but with low signal, so I had to install two repeaters in her house to get comfortable coverage for all.
Well I didn't buy the repeaters, my father did while I was abroad. The first one had been set up correctly, and is acting as if it's the same access point of the main router at home. So far so good.
But now I was setting the second repeater, it's not an original one as the first one (Chinese), but I has to work anyway...
The problem is that this repeater is still having a different SSID (Which I guess I can change, but will it act as the first one ? No disconecting if switched ? ), not a big problem here.
The main issue is that I'm finding no-way to set this repeater as a secure connection, so now everyone can access my connection and get free Internet, which is problematic.
I don't really know what information to provide, the repeater is a Realtek RE1000.
Here's how I proceeded the installation for this one:
1) Entered the default IP of the device which only works when the Ethernet cable is plugged.
2) Entered the username and password provided.
3) Clicked on setup wizard, then the website looked up for nearby connections, it found the previous repeater's one, but that didn't work. I brought the repeater to my house, and when the webpage was looking for connections, it found two of the same SSID, which are probably the default router and the first repeater, well I don't know, that seems strange, however I connected it using the default router's SSID, then brought it back to my grandma's house and it worked correctly, with the other repeater's connection, not really sure what happened here but it worked finally.
During the set up I had entered all passwords and stuff, but the access point from this only repeater is unsecure, giving access to everyone.
Is it possible that some models don't provide security ?! If so, which is probably no, is there anyway to secure that ?
Thanks in advance.
