NuclearVision Which one is bette for gaming? I mean with a good GPU, i saw plenty of videos on youtube running battlefield 3, gta 4... But which one is better base on your experience guys. The last PC i used had a pentium 3, my laptop has pentium (2.1GHZ), it's been like two years i have not played any heavy game. what is the main difference, i'll be using a 1gb nvidia video card, and 2-4GB of ram.
Nemesis-301 well it depends which core 2 duo you're talking about...? edit: here this should help you out: http://cpubenchmark.net/mid_range_cpus.html
NajaLB Could you specify more the specs in each one ? So we can tell the difference and which one is better ..
NuclearVision Let's say the core 2 duo E4600. Will it perform better than the pentium dual core e5700 (3GHz)? It does according to the site you linked me to, i read everywhere that a low frequency core2duo is better than a higher frequency P-dualCore Any recommendation for a good motherboard that will fit the cpu (pentium dual core) and a nvidia geforce gpu (haven't decided which one yet). thanks indeed nemesis-301. @NajaLB Believe me, it is not about specs as it is about experience...
AvoK95 The E5700 scores 2,005 and the E4600 scores 1,376 , meaning the E5700 (Dual Core) is faster than the E4600 (Core2Duo). Just for the record , a processor that just says Pentium on it or Pentium D or Pentium Dual-Core are all the same dual cores. The architectures just change. BTW, why would you build such an old system when you can get a Sandy Bridge G620 ? Which scores 2,486 (Which is faster than the E5700. It costs the same and the boards are easier to find. Get the G620 + ECS H61M2-M3 and a GT610 or 620. Also note that you could get an i3 with a GT640 , but I still don't know what's your budget nor do I know what you'll use the computer for.
Beej Well i have the e5400, but overclocked to 3.6ghz. In anycase, depending on what core 2 duo we are talking about. If its the old 4xxx series, based on 65nm tech. E5xxx series are better. But if we are talking about e7xxx and e8xxx series, 45nm wolfdale proc, then they are faster. You see e5xxx series and the 7 and 8, are all wolfdale. They are the same except different cache mem and instructions. The diference between a core 2 duo e7xxx series and e5xxx dual core is minimal, as ther is only 1mb l2 cache difference. But e8xxx series are faster and better and overclock more if you are willing to do so. But if you are buying a new pc and want the cheapest and fastest, i3s are the best.
AvoK95 Beej wroteBut if you are buying a new pc and want the cheapest and fastest, i3s are the best. I second that. I've jumped from a Dual core to an i3 540 and it is massively fast ! Totally worth paying 130$ instead of 70$
NuclearVision Guys i decided to buy this board with the g620(sandy bridge). Will it fit in any case, or it does it require a special one?
NuclearVision @AvoK95 thanks for the help man, i wad wondering if the gtx 550 will fit in the motherboard i've chosen, abd perform well with the g620 cpu. What do you think?
