  • Pentium 3 800MHz vs Celeron 900MHz for gaming

Here's a very weird topic.
I got an old system I've put together from parts here and there.
It has 512 MB of SDRam @133Mhz
40GB Seagate HDD Enhanced IDE (Now that's performance)
ATI 256MB X800 AGP Card
It currently has an 800MHz Pentium 3 installed since it's FSB is 133MHz whereas the Celeron's is 100MHz. But the Celeron's clock speed is 900MHz so I guess it's faster than the Pentium 3 by 100MHz.

So this PC is mainly going to be used for LAN games. But as we all know the processors are bottlenecking the graphics card, so I wanna choose the processor that's more powerful to have less bottleneck.

Help me please :')

Here are the links of the Pentium 3 and the Celeron
You better use the Pentium 3 instead of celeron, even if the celeron's clock is faster by 100mhz it has lower L2 cache and slower FSB compared to Pentium class CPU's, which will affect gaming performance for sure.
True, Pentium series much better than Celeron series.
Wouldn't the Celeron perform better in games ? Since it has a higher core clock ?
I think that you also need to consider the IPC performance but it should be close at this level of performance between both cpus,
If you wanna be sure 100% benchmark them both but using the game or games that you are going to use the system for.

Thanks for the idea. I used Windows Index to see if there will be any difference in scores , turned out that the Celeron scored 1.3 whereas the Pentium 3 scored 1.2. By the way the FSB being slower didn't effect anything.
