  • LG Optimus 2x vs. Nexus S Dilemma

Hello fellas,

I hope my frequent posts aren't annoying towards the community :P However, my dependent is mainly on you guyz ;D

I have such a big dilemma in DETAIL between the LG Optimus 2x , Google Nexus S

Details:
Value: Nexus S : ~$330 avg.
O2X: ~$260 avg surprisingly

Performance: LG optimus 2x is the winner {Tegra 2 dual core cpu} :@ even though Nvidia didn't release the damn source, => HW ACC on Cyanogenmod is fairly working (reverse engineering)

Physical specs: LG Optimus 2x also surprisingly better than the Nexus S in terms of durability and thickness, both Nexus S and the Galaxy S (i9000) gives the feeling of cheap material.

Display: LG Optimus 2x is the best. Gorilla Glass, S-LCD (used in iPhones retina), minus the Contour display that nexus S offers which bit sucks, especially fruit ninja lol (Also, there is Nexus S AMOLED, but +$60 bux away, Amoled=least life)

Cool tweak: An app that can control the navigation LEDs, e.g: Facebook notifcation is the home button, so it flashes as of the lack of Notification LED (Both phones lack)

Battery perf: Nexus S , somehow because of the single core CPU, but it should be Vice versa, Dual core uses less power at processing things less than 50% of load than a single core.

Style: Nexus S wins (opinion) not important anyways...

Local accessories: A question to be answered.... :/

NFC: Nexus S, no need for it, only after 2 times the during time to be spread in Lebanon :P

Thats against:

HDMI & External sotrage: Optimus 2x is the winner. (As both i might be using in the future, maybe not!)

Storage: LOL, 8GB NS = $300, 16GB O2X: $250 (did i hear dual core? YESS!!, WTF GOOGLE??)

Now the biggest part:

The hot damn software:

Nexus S is the 2nd phone to have the latest updates from Google. Well, Jelly-O Bean.

The LG Optimus still didn't recieve the damn ICS which was the major cons. However, its guaranteed to be release in Q3 of 2012.

My problem on the software side is, all I need is stability, mods (i know that these can be hardly combined)

O2x: GB 2.3.4
Nexus S: JB 4.1.0

IS software a major issue for regretting a $250 dual-core phone?

Sound Quality: Which is my 2nd major upgrade after performance, I should represent this as TIE, since both includes Wolfson DAC, Voodoo mod. But lack of Voodoo features in the O2X ( nvm, i only need AMP, hate external ones, sport-ish)

Others, connectivity, bluetooth etc, aren't major in difference.

Any opinion/suggestions/help are appreciated,

Thank you!
you are reviewing them? you bought them?

Nope planning to get one...
my advise is to get the Galaxy Nexus. it only costs ~50$ more than the nexus s, and for that you get: better front and rear cameras, dual core cpu, 1GB ram, 720p 4.65 amoled screen, 16GB storage. on top of these you will be able to get the next version of android that might come early next year.
He wants it for the Wolfson DAC. Audio output. Does not really care about having the newest phone. And he's right about aiming at a sub $300 budget, $350 is TOO expensive for a Nexus S.

Right. What do you think?

$370 at Amhaz!!

EDIT: Changed my mind again, big dilemma lol: chose the Atrix 4G.

for 240 bux. Dual core, 5MP etc. (The O2X camera sensor is too noisy, no use for the 8MP)
Cruel Lol on the Nexus S for 370 bux!!! Single core, 5MB, no storage expansion, DKF.

Any Atrix 4G consumer, be informed that I started to port the Voodoo sound from the Asus Transformer to Atrix 4G, since they both have the same DAC, same implementation, but the developer of the Voodoo sound did not contribute since it has a locked bootloader, and recently it has been unlocked. But he doesn't care anymore since hes working on the S3... WM1811.

The LG O2X has a poor RF shielding... Its the reason why it sounds muffled, high resistance, noticable stereo crosstalk...
KingOmar wrotewhy don't you get the galaxy s advance?
Only the i9000 series gets the DAC....

Etc, i9000A, i9000T ... (e.g i9003... nope)

S1 (non variant),Nexus S,Optimus 2X : WM8990
S3 : WM1811
Transformer, Atrix 4G: WM8903

(There are other plenty phones that has Wolfson micro chip, but uses indirect implementation)

Now according to my deep research:

Features (Voodoo): 'WM8990 > WM1811'(both same w/o voodoo) > WM8903

Frequency response ::FLAT:: + clarity: WM8903 > 'WM8990 > or (flat) < WM1811'

Max AMP (after voodoo patch): -WM8990 = 10dB
-WM8903 = 6dB (+It can drive 300 ohms headphones with least saturation ;) )
-WM1811 = ?dB anyways > WM8990 without voodoo

Stereo crosstalk + some other specs depends on the manufacturer, RF shilding (PCB), copper quality etc...

* There is no real difference "Features" between the DACs... e.g WM8903 does not have HW parametric EQ nor hardware SRS...

Has anyone tested the 47LW cinema 3D from LG? It doesn't cause headaches, requires no batteries and the glasses are light. <admin edit: ... lg optimus accessories
the nexus s is 16 GB there is no 8 GB model.
OR now that the Nexus 4 is released for surprisingly cheap you can go and buy it (349$ on the play store)
