the minute I drink coffee, I almost pass out. I get very sleepy. It only happens if I drink coffee at home. I drink Nescafe. I hardly make it to bed but I wake up energized three hours later. I'm addicted to coffee. this makes no sense. it's supposed to be a stimulant. any ideas why?
Sleep 8 hours a day at the same time everyday for 1 week at least. Drink only 1 cup when you wake up in the morning. Hide the Nescafe container somewhere high so that you need a ladder to get it. This will make you less addictive.
I was addicted to Nescafe as well and I had a sleeping problem. I started sleeping 8 hours a day and I was cured, however I'm still addicted to Nescafe. I drink 4 mugs a day.

The myth that you need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep every night is wrong. Some require 5 hours, while others 10.

Anyways, I will say this is a psychological effect maybe? If the main reason you drink coffee is so you can be energized all day, try something else; like an apple in the morning maybe

That's not a myth it's a proximity. Like you said, some need 5 others need 10 but most need 8.
8 hours of sleep is said in general, because you can't know how much sleep a person needs.
AvoK95 is right. I sleep 3 hours before work, 3 after work and 2 after dinner. That is likely to be the cause. I rarely ever get the whole 8 hours.

Sleep for 8 whole hours at once for 1 week and see how good you'll feel :)

For how long you've been drinking coffee?

I start drinking about 13 or 14 years ago, I have a similar problem.
Well Coffee does not stimulate me nor make me sleep... It's just like water.

I guess it's a biochemical thingy. Once your body get used to caffeine, coffee won't affect you.
I can drink coffee seemingly without effect too--it won't make me sleepy (gives me some energy actually), and won't give me insomnia either.

Switch to something like tea (green >>>> black) and that may get you going on the right track. You need rest, and almost as importantly, STAY AWAY FROM POWDERED COFFEE (caps for emphasis). Drink real coffee, or none at all. Would you drink instant tea or juice?
I once had some issues with Nescafe, I drink Nescafe around 8am then around 9h30 -10 I begin to feel sleepy, once I passed out..
Went to a doctor and told me I have something called hypoglycaemia, it's not something dangerous since it can be fixed with some bunch of diet/vitamins

no, nothing in a can or bottled juice.
I even stopped drinking pepsi because I heard the acid is really bad.
I got some lipton tea bags earlier and I'll try those instead of coffee from now on.
@hussam

Well there it is, All people I know that are ةعؤا older than me (40+) from family members to old friends face same situation. drinking coffee became a daily routine not a stimulant.

PS: I guess coffee's addiction is more psychological. Man, looking at your avatar made me prepare a " ركوة قهوة "
Here's a reversed case I experienced about 2 months ago.

I was prescribed two medications, both had a very powerful relaxant effect as well as helping one sleep. I stopped taking them after three days because instead of helping me sleep more, they made me sleep 1 hour per day. When I contacted the doctor that prescribed them, he told me that since I'm waiting for them to take effect, I'm getting more anxious than how i usually am, which reversed the effect of the medication.

Long story short, I stopped taking them and opted for forcing myself to sleep between 10:00pm and 12:00am, which would give me around 7 hours sleep per day.

There is nothing wrong with coffee, but the bottom of the barrel stuff is of the instant variety. If you want to drink coffee, get some better beans at Starbucks, Costa or whatever and get a French press and make your own. For beans, don't get the Brazillian stuff they sell here, splurge a bit more and get something decent (Kenyan, Ethiopian, or anything from central America are good relatively inexpensive options). As for the French press, get a smaller one that can fit at most 3 cups, otherwise, you may be drinking cold coffee.

In general, the cheaper the coffee, the more caffeine that is contained in them. That applies to the instant coffee as well as the cheaper varieties. Alternatively, you could go half caf and see if that solves your dilemma.
I agree that part of the problem has to do with the poor quality of coffee in Nescafe. I am a coffee lover, I get expensive beans that I grind myself at home, and drink 2 to 3 cups/espressos a day. I don't have sleeping problems (unlike my Nescafe-abuse days) .

Bottom line, low quality coffee will hurt you. If you're a heavy drinker think of "upgrading" to the real deal. I agree with xazbrat, except that I personally prefer Moka pots over French press.

Finally, not to be taken too seriously, a study seem to show that coffee yields a lot of health benefits. So don't be too hard on yourself for appreciating the stuff.

It looks like the reason you drink coffee is to actually keep you awake, but the time you drink it is when your body is already exhausted and needs the sleep. So it wont make a difference.
not sure what the problem is with nescafe but i can't sleep if i don't drink it, and can't wake up without it either, not sure how it makes me sleep and wakes me up the same time, weird!
I don't drink coffee, but I rarely drink nescafe when I need energy...
yesterday I had to study for my finals and needed some energy so when I woke up at 10:00 I drank 2 cups of nescafe (3 in 1) and I really had a lot of energy for 8 hours...after the effect wore off I returned to my normal state... but yeah I agree, if you drink too much, your body will get used to it and you will no longer feel any different...
Coffee in general (im considering that's the main stuff in nescafe) actually can cause your heart to beat "irregularly" and can revitalize you.

It's the sugar i believe that is the key point here.

Generally speaking, the sugar in our body is controlled by our insulin (thank god), drinking too much can cause the feeling of fullness (we metabolize this sugar to make energy) and our body will be satisfied. The sugars will then be eventually converted to fatty acids, just like how some food is converted to fatty acids after a large meal. Anyway, the point im getting to, is that MOST biological clocks of humans respond to this act of fullness / or after eating at least to drowsiness/sleepiness

This sort of explains why some people feel tired after drinking nescafe - especially after already eating a meal etc

But drinking it on "reee2" with nothing else will give us that energy boost in the morning since we'd be actually low on energy due to an over night fast

I didn't really read all the posts, but gave a nice skim through, but this generally explains the jist of things

Try timing it so it's not after or with any meals, you will see a more "positive" effect of coffee/nescafe/whatever is going on here

I rely on nescafe personally for studying over night, i make sure to resist the urge of eating anything before - so when i KNOW im going to have to stay up all night, i make sure the last thing i eat is around 9:00pm at the most, and from 12:00pm onwards i have a cup of nescafe every 3 hours

That cycle generally keeps me awake and well, and i don't feel drowsy at all, and im even able to do an exam at 8:00am :P
I don't add sugar. actually yesterday I didn't drink any nescafe and I was up from 6AM till almost midnight when I fell asleep playing on the computer.
