HI , any one knows a patch to play games made for windows vista/ 7 on windows XP , like "battlefield 3"
some of my important programs doesn't run on vista/7 so i am stuck with xp .
yasamoka
Battlefield 3 requires DirectX10 or 11. It doesn't run under DirectX9. So Battlefield 3 cannot be played on XP. However, Nvidia recently has been able to support full performance of their cards in Virtual Machines. You might want to check out the Nvidia website. Also, if your CPU supports Virtualization (VT-d, not VT-x, I think, VT-d allows direct access to hardware), then you can run Windows 7 under XP.
What software do you use that doesn't run under Windows 7? Maybe you can do the reverse and run those in a Windows XP Virtual Machine? (Because doing the first method wouldn't make sense).

how i know if my cpu supports Virtualization, it's an i7 core that's all what i know, and i have an ati radeon hd 5800
yasamoka
Then it supports all that you need...I'm not sure if AMD supports having full performance under a virtual machine...my recommendation is to run XP inside a virtual machine inside Windows 7. What do you think?
By the way: 7ARAM to run your HD58xx card under Windows XP. You are missing out on DirectX 10 and DirectX 11! So tell me what you think of running an XP Virtual Machine under Windows 7.

so if there is no other solution I'll try yours on another machine with windows 7 thx.
do you have in mind a specific virtual machine software.

yeah yasamoka's idea is pretty easy and simple, but its annoying for someone such as myself :P
try it, another solution could be dual booting, or using a windows xp live cd installed on a flash drive for better performance, and try running your program from there, if its not something heavy

windows xp live cd installed on a flash drive
interesting but i searched google and it looked a bit complicated for me can you explain how to do it please.
if its not something heavy
define "your " heavy
MrClass
As the guys mentioned above; virtual XP under Windows 7 host. What are those important programs that run under XP but not under 7? You can try Vmware thin client to run XP-only applications under Windows 7.

you just download an iso image and burn it to a disc, then somehow copy the files in the disc to the flash drive including the boot files, or maybe you had to create one for a usb version? i can't remember to be honest..
as for heavy, i meant something that needs a good amount of processing power

it may sound a bit silly, but could be helpful, have you tried using the compatibility options in windows 7 properties for the program you need to run ? you can chose from the properties running the program in windows xp.it helped me running some old games on my windows 7 like Yu-Gi Oh and Commandos 1.

thank you all but i wished to have some solution other than getting rid of my beloved Winxp :-) , "if it's not broken don't fix" .
AvoK95
But Windows XP is broken. Some have stopped developing software on it.
If you use that quote saying "If it ain't broken don't fix it" Then we would all be using computers running Windows 95 , because , you know.. it's still not broken.
Updating to Windows 7 is the best upgrade you would do to your PC. Did you know that by using Windows XP you're limiting your PC's performance ?
If you still insist on using Windows XP , then at least dual boot it with Windows 7 so that you can play your games there and use your programs on XP.
yasamoka
We're getting to Windows 8. Windows XP has had its days. Great OS, but hey, its time is up.
solo220
Ok i'll try dual boot thx AvoK95
i am searching for some instructions
well i mean by "if it's not broken don't fix it " about my pc setup WinXP+my programs , they do what i need exactly, if i installed win7 or vista they may or may not work with them and i am obliged to install WinXP at the end , then i have to install them again.
so i will end up just wasting my time :-(
UPDATE: it' done , dual boot has worked for me , just used my spare partition to install windows 7 and now i have a menu at start up to choose which operating system i need to run .
thank you all.

You can create an image of your hard drive with Windows XP installed on it and burn it on disks. Then you install Windows 7 regularly and try your programs. If they don't run, you just re-install the image of Windows XP and it will be as if you never formatted your PC.
