Hello everyone, to be honest the main reason i registered to LebGeeks is to share my experience fixing the Nvidia GeForce 8600 Graphic Card with all lebanese geeks out there. Here goes.
So a couple of days ago I heard a strong pop sound, at first I didn't know where it was from. Everything seemed A-ok and my computer was working fine. However yesterday, strange white lines suddenly appeared on my screen while i was playing fallout3. I thought there was something wrong with the cable, i tried moving it but nothing seemed to work. The Display malfunction got worse until is started to turn off then on again. I knew by then it was something to do with the VGA card, so i took it out. Turns out the pop sound was result of a few capacitors blown off on the VGA chip-set. That pissed me off !!! I thought i had to buy a new VGA, and that was not financially possible at least for a month from now. I switched to the motherboard's VGA slot (~=365 mb), and i searched the net for possible solutions like any geek would do. Here's what I found out.
Nvidia Geforce 8600GT has a notorious reputation for blowing up its capacitors, luckily for us there is a way to fix it, simply by replacing the blown up capacitors with new ones. So here is what I've done, I went to an electronics place near my house, "you can go to katranji, next to Rafik Harriri Hospital, in the Jnah Area" I bought 8 (1500u 6.3v)& 8 (470u 16v) capacitors, you will need less, but I brought extra just in case it blew up again. I went to one of those old repair shops, asked him to replace the capacitors, ran back home, installed the card in it's slot, hallelujah !!! Its working fine.
So don't go buying a new card the second you're current one malfunctions, save some money and fix it. I hope this thread helped.
Peace!
