I want to do one of those water sports where you hang by a rope behind a motorized boat and go.
Anywhere I can find that over here in Lebanon? Please do tell, want to do that this weekend.

I think you mean
wakeboarding. I suggest you call stores that sell sports equipement (Mike Sport, Sport Experts, etc.), they're probably well-connected. Make sure to let us know what happens!

You mean wakeboarding ;)
IIRC you can find that at ATCL (They have the boat and the equipment)
Cheers

Yeah, that's why I used quotes. Didn't know what the correct term was :)
Thanks for the new vocabulary!
I'll call them all and check it out.
Do you guys happen to know what the "raft" in the sea thing is calld? It's flat (almost) on top, and full of air. I cut my leg real bad last week 1/3 to Ziri infront of Saida (the little island). Father tells me it's a sunken ship I cut my leg on, not a rock.

I thought you were referring to water skiing, but on one ski, which is known as slalom skiiing. If you really want to be adventurous, try out
kitesurfing. You won't need to worry about having a boat with you too.

The international Wakeboard competition was held this weekend at ATCL - was a great day with participants from many countries

kite surfing
Can it be used in Lebanon , i mean does the wind conditions (speed,direction,...) sea state are appropriate ?
Metalloy
yes kite surfing has actually a nice base in lebanon, about a hundred kite surfer wich is a good number for a strange sport to our lands.
Getting back to your question, the wind speed varies along the lebanese shore, so depend on yout level you go to the respective beach ( i only that where i live which is in Rasmasqua, before tripoly, is dedicated for pros usually).
you may have to travel to egypt at first (it is easier to start there, and the trainer organize such trips) but it isn't mandatory.
The only drawback for this sport that it is expensive one, so you should check your budget before plunging in.
solo220
@Metalloy how much ?
Metalloy
well you really check the trainer himself but ill you a rough approximation:
gear would cost 1000$ maybe more
training session i beleive 60$ an hour or so
ill give you more accurate numbers when i actually talk to him myself which isnt before finishing the semester, you could say around a month.
Metalloy
today i talked to the kite surfing instructor:
the training session is 60$ and the average student takes 4 to 6 sessions. This 60$ includes the gear ( just for the session of course then the instructor will take it back). After the students finish his sessions, he'll have to buy his own gear which is a small fortune really:
- around 1300$ for a used gear, maybe a little more, however he said that their are some really good used gear that he recommends
- aroun 2300$ for a new gear, again maybe a little more.
if anyone is interested or want to know more details let me know .

Thanks man , do you have the instructors phone number ?
Metalloy
sure I do :

Mr. Ghaddar
Let me know if you're going for it :D

I did some knee-wakeboarding today, amateur style. It's fun as fuck. Highly recommended.
eurybaric
Definitely is man! did you try wakeboarding though? I'm guessing you did but couldn't get up? If that's so man i advise you to try more until you can. It's the hardest part (Prolly the only difficult thing about it) and once you're up: man, what fun!
In any case, tell us more. Did you go to ATCL? how much did you pay and all?
Cheers!
