Hello there people!
We have a bit of an issue going on here so as usual when i have hardware problems or seek advice i come to see my fellow geeks. But i ask you now to sit back and prepare a nice brick wall to smash your heads with because this going to be a very ... very disturbing thread, as our friend Yasamoka can relate.
Let us start with a small story about a guy who just, what can i say, adores farmville and some other facebook games. So he thought "my old rig isnt good enough for farmville " and so he bought the following system :
- ASUS ROG Rampage III Extreme mother board 1366 socket
- Intel core i7 960 3.2 GHz
- 24 GB Corsair dominators triple channel 1866 MHZ DDR3 memory kit
- 2 Western digital veloceraptors ( 10k rpm ) 300 GB and "raid 0"-ed them
- 2 Western digital 1 TB 7200 rpm 32 mb cache
- 1000W silverstone Strider Gold powersupply
- Zotac GTX 480
- The little things such as the razer gaming gear and the such .. as you all know how farmville demands the such
Now that our friend here had his rig and meddled with it for a year or two, and i guess the peeps at facebook sure are working hard to improve their game, and apparently, the rig is no longer able to handle all this graphical power and superiority that farmville may demand.
So now my friends, the guy wants a solution, he is looking into building a new system, one that would finally break the barriers of impossibility and that would finally manage to handle farmville as it should.
And here my friends is where you come in : this guy needs our help! 6500$ is the budget, not much but he has slight hopes of achieving the dream!
Our own yasamoka and i talked to him, tried to lead him to reason a bit about what he is doing, but to no avail, the guy wants a new system no matter how much we talked to him, and still knowing that it wont help, still insists on getting that rig.
Well, he did want 1 7970 at first, but then thought about it being . . . less than what is needed, so decided to go with two. And the 24 GB of RAM are most probably the reason why the game is lagging, so yeah more is better . . . preferably faster . . . well, you get the bloody point.
Now my friends, you have 6500$ as i said, make this man happy.. make his pony in farmville happy... and for god's sake, lets make him a system and be done with it.

I was informed about this guy ;).
Well in anycase, you and tarek have already gave him the advice. He wouldnt listen, so you shouldnt feel guilty if he bought Rampage IV E with 3930k and 32g of gskill 2800mhz ram (too hard on the cpu imc) with 4x 7970s to play farmvile.

Not Tarek. It was me. When Tarek reads this... (unthinkable)

But can it run Crysis ? ;)

@That Guy, Dude, you have literally stopped every single blood vain in my body & for the first time in my whole life, I find myself speechless. Concerning that bloody F........ Game as Beej concluded chances that he might settle on the RIV-E with a 3930K, god I feel horrible arghhhhhh.
jsaade
Take the money and give him a pentium I.

Bro what is the unthinkable? There’s nothing could be called unthinkable more than this EVER!! This is far from what I can handle, just away too much :(.

@That Guy, Dude, Get my Rig specs and leave me ALONE!!! This is the best thing for both of us :(.
wollyka
I will give him my rig!!!
who is this Guy?
MrClass
Hey please ask him if he wants to sell his old rig.
Regarding what rig to get; well what's the best way to spend 6500$?
- EVGA Classified SR-X, why not?
- 2x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2687W (20M Cache, 3.10 GHz, 8.00 GT/s Intel® QPI), farmville needs tons of processing, 2 xeons will surely get the job done
- 96GB DDR3 RAM, you got the slots on the mobo, so max the bitch out!
- RAID 0 2+ SSDs
- 2x Nvidia Geforce 690 or 4x Nvidia Geforce 680 Quad SLI, how else could you see your pony in full HD?
- 1600 watt PSU to power that hardcore farmville rig
- Some mega sized case that can hold all of the above junk
Seriously though, does he want to sell his old rig?
AvoK95
LOL , this reminds me of this women we sold a laptop to. Farmville was loading all scrambled. She returned the laptop and said "This laptop is "Defo"' LOL.
Ayman
Please give me his address, would be interested in blowing him up and his PC with a C4 under his desk, even if that leads to a civil war. Thanks.

Lol yasamoka and i sure were going to smash our heads to the walls, i told him about the guy he said " look i will talk to him, since you get angry fast ( which is true ) let me talk to him " . . . that turned out pretty ugly and now yasamoka is looking for his house to kill him lol
This truly is madness, i know that, the guy is blinded by the fact that he needs more power to make it work. What he doesn't realize is that no matter what he gets its gonna be the same because the source of his problem is most probably internet or just web browser issue.
But, in case he insists even more. . . mmmm, dual 690s anyone ? :D
I swear if he doesn't yield i will make him a system that will rock the earth. I wish there were any MARS IIs left lol. @ tarek can u get us 2 ? hahahahah
Well it was worth the laugh really and @ MrClass if he does i will PM you right away, and knowing him you will get a decent price for them actually...
In any case thanks for your reply, you guys MAY have saved 6500$ worth of hardware going to waste ( couldn't care less about him, all i care about is the hardware that is wasted)
babum
Why don't you go to his PC, tell him that the folks at Facebook did a major upgrade that will allow Farmville to run better, push some buttons, perhaps see what the issue with this super demanding game is and let him enjoy?
AvoK95
I bet his rig only needs formatting...
babum
AvoK95 wroteI bet his rig only needs formatting...
That's a bit extreme. His rig seems fine, maybe he needs to update flash or another program? I mean I doubt his PC would get slow enough to be unable to play web based games and need formatting. It is too soon.
peekaie
I'm curious to know if minecraft could run smoothly on the $6500 pc.

I guess nothing is wrong with his pc, it's true, that those flash fb games will consume a lot of resources when your farm/city or whatever becomes larger and eventually expand to a huge size. plus all the activity going on in the farm.
MrClass
Though to be even with the guy, some flash games do halt in the browser when a lot of objects in the game are performing some kind of action/animation. Remember the Master Potatoes flash game that most of us played? Well when you reach very high levels, the game gets very laggy cause hundreds of objects are moving. Even my rig couldn't handle the pressure and Firefox almost froze/crashed several times (became not responding, but then came back to life). I checked my CPU and RAM consumption back then; CPU load was merely 10% but RAM consumption for just a browser that has a flash game loaded was crazy; almost 1.5GB of RAM used.
Fine then, if CPU load is just 10% and RAM used is 1.5 (say 2GB, I still have 6GB RAM left to use right?); only then the lagging got to be from the game itself. Note that playing the game doesn't need internet, loading it does. The game downloads the flash file and runs it in cache mode.
So how to solve this? Well, contact the developers and tell them to redevelop the game and optimize it to run on multiple CPU cores or something. Not quite knowledgeable about farmville, but if it only runs when having an active internet connection, then probably ask the guy to contact his ISP and get a dedicated connection. Finally, perhaps he can try the game in an other OS like Linux or Mac and/or another internet browser.
Don't tell me he uses IE cause IE can't run shit.
