Everyone has their favorite brand when it comes to laptops. They chose that brand because they had bad experience with other brands.
What I mad this thread for is that I want everyone to post what bad experience they had with some brands.
I'll go first..
HP: Very hard to disassemble , has LOTS of screws, runs very hot, batteries die quickly, made only for looks.
Toshiba: A good brand but I have noticed that most of their laptops have power button / power jack/ AC/DC Adapter and Graphics card problems (If it's dedicated)
Acer: I like Acer because it's a very good brand for someone who has a small budget. However, Acer's have very weird problems, like the webcam or sound suddenly stop working, or the screen gets scrambled from time to time for no reason.
Lenovo: Overall a very good brand for the price and quality. I have noticed that the CPU fan doesn't turn on until the CPU get to very high temps. But the fan always keeps it cool when it get's hot so it not that much of big deal. The build quality of the product depends on how much it costs. For example my netbook costs 300~ ish and the keyboard keys sometimes get stiffened and I have to re-seat them for it to become normal again. But when you buy a Lenovo that costs 600~700$ you'll notice a solid body.
Asus: I don't have a lot of experience with Asus laptops, but I find them cheaply build when it comes to budget models (Like Lenovo as said above).
Dell: I love this brand. They are very easy to repair, run very cool, have good performance , everything is top notch except for the battery lasting less every time you charge it and eventually die.
Gigabyte : No experience.
Sony VAIO : I find these good , but they feel above average , and most importantly they are very expensive. But a very good brand overall.
Apple: I have no experience of this brand , but I find them not safe to store my data because they come so thin that the HDD's always get damaged.
Fujitsu: I stay away from this brand. They run very hot, the power jacks break very easily, keyboards are uncomfortable and break easily.
Samsung: Same as Acer. But I find Samsung to have hardware problems more often than Acer.
Compaq:Same as HP
Packard-bell: Very good brand, but it looks and feels very cheap.
MSI:Runs hot, VERY hard to fix, power-jack problems.
Alienware: Nice for gaming, but spare parts are almost impossible to find. Same as Dell overall.
So what experience have you guys had ? :)

You got no clue what you're talking about. Please take them off the list.

I agree with MrClass on apple, i myself hate them since the cheap out on hardware (use old ones) and cost alot, but overall they have one of the best laptops around. And that i cant take it away from them.
As for asus and msi, it dpends on what model you got/saw. WHen you get an ultrabook or a nettop from brands like them, they tend to cheap out on looks so you dont pay higher. And they have better support than others. Acer are good, but their screen tends to die out fast. HP and their temps and batteries. Toshiba are good all arounders, dell is almost dead. ANd alienware (which is dell btw) overprice like crap. But they do look AWESOME, but hey i am NOT paying an extra 500$ just for a plate with my name on it, in a weird alien/english way.

@AvoK95, ASUS produce “Cheaply Build Notebooks?” Let me give you some facts about their laptops mate because it is a misleading info.
First, back in 2007 the Company split into three distinct operational units: ASUS, Pegatron and the Unihan. Pagatron handled Motherboard & Notebooks Manufacturing and they created the best “Hardware Ever”.
Back to square one “Cheap” I had the Privilege of using & selling many of their Notebooks & based on the “Reviews / Customers Feedback” Frankly it does not make any sense. In fact they earned a “Strong Reputation” among their counterparts, with a “Sleek Design, Solid Quality & Extremely Durable” O heat issues, no dodgy odd keyboards thus, most importantly the “Hardware Implemented Inside” everything is “Neat”, whereas other’s looks like a mess. Pegatron manufactures them using “ASUS Hardware” from Motherboards to Display Screens, when other’s search here and there for bits and pieces to come with a product.

@Mr.Class
I already said that I don't have experience with Apple notebooks , but I always see people looking for hard drives , and based on how thin it comes it's just common sense that the hard drives are getting damaged easier.
@Beej
I already said that you get good quality when you pay for laptop that are more than 600$.
Can you also tell me why Dell is dead ?
@tarekelkhaledi
Sorry mate I meant netbooks, that's a typo. But again, when it comes to Asus or any other brand you get quality built products if you spend more than 600$.
Although I find Asus netbooks better than Lenovo netbooks , because when you're holding the Asus netbook you can feel it all sturdy and secure, whereas when you grab a Lenovo netbook , you'd be afraid to apply pressure on the body because you're too scared to break it.
Also it is true that the inside is very neat and easy to dissemble and repair.
About the dodgy keyboard, I have noticed this on older models but not on newer models.

@AvoK95, In this case, we can call it even ;).

I had a dell XPS M1330, it died after a year
the gpu melted on the board even though I never played games on it and always had it cooled
it seemed like it was a regular prob but the point is that I won't get a Dell never again and the repair was to cost 500$ so I left it to rot.
my next notebook will be the upcoming macbook pro 13'

It is true that some Dell notebooks have such problems like this, I've also heard that batteries of Sony dry cells once caught on fire on some series.

I got an Hp laptop and while its true it tends to heat up sometimes , you could easily control the temperature using HP CoolSense . Todays HP laptops arent the same as the 2010 ones , they dont overheat to a degree of turning off

Says who? In my mac environment we have 11 white Macbooks that have been working perfectly for 6 years and are far from being dead. Of course they are considered obsolete but they do work.
Misuse of hardware is a human error not a manufacturer error. Free fall drops is definitely considered human error. In addition, do you know what hard drive brand is found inside macbooks? Hitachi, Seagate, and Western Digital are used.
I'm not sorry to say that you need to research before you lay down ideas. A lot of logical fallicies can be avoided. Also stating that you have no experience with the Apple doesn't help at all; this actually removes credibility and will actually make people doubt your other ideas.
Don't hate me; just wanted to be straight to the point.
I am glad to show you my Mac-only network. You'll be amazed when you see the full potential of a mac being used.
AvoK95
I know what hard drives Mac's use.
The Mac's you used are fixed in their places and do get pressure on the hard drive box they have underneath.
I can guarantee you that if you apply pressure on them a few times they will get damaged.
Toshiba laptops also have this problem, the plastic which protects the hard drive is too thin making it more vulnerable to get damaged. However HP laptops have a very sturdy body, and have very less hard drive failures than Toshiba's.
I'm not saying that it's because of manufacturing , I'm saying that people will apply pressure on the plastic body which covers the hard drive when moving the laptop from place to place.
I'm also not saying that Macs are known for this problem. I'm saying that this is the only problem they may face.

NO offence AvoK95 but completely pointless thread; a brand rarely tells the whole story. We are not comparing car brands.
Every manufacture has a flagship and a low end device. You can buy a Sony for 780$ and another one for 4100$.
Acer laptop starting price is somewhere around 450$ but the had also the Ferrari starting at 2300$ back in time.
Everytime the price is up, expect better battery life, lighter / more compact design and durability OR bigger screen, better specs ( GPU, CPU, RAM and HDD/SSD ) and heavier laptops.
As for reputation I have to say :
Toshiba > Lenevo > Dell > all the rest
Apple is not included in the list since OS X market share is way below MSFT one. Forget about Bootcamp, their line is targeting specific end-users. It's out of question for multinational companies to order macbook.
HP has one of the highest hardware failure rate and poorest quality control I've ever seen.
Sony laptops made in Japan are among the best, stay away from the chinese one.
The only laptop that managed to survive the past 5 years and still in mint condition is a Fujitsu-Siemens S-6420 despite all the abuse :)
I however am only concerned about the Support Service when it comes to brands ( Warranty/ driver updates etc..) and Dell is on the top of the list.
