But are SSD prices going down?
I want to get a 512GB SSD but it costs a fortune :(
Rubz
Oh.. I would have thought that they got over the Thailand flood thing by now,
@MrClass jeez, a 512 SSD ?! thats just overkill now, maybe in a few years. Anyway SSDs are great for running OSes and apps but dont perform as well with streamig media. U must have alot of apps :)
MrClass
On the contrary, SSDs are amazing when it comes to media. In the world of video editing, IO speed is crucial.
Rubz
Well, i would have thought that actual editing requires more processor power than storage speed
Writting speed of large, sequential files (movies, sound tracks) isn't much faster on SSD than on fast HDD. That's why writting such files on HDD is recommended -to avoid "wear and tear" of SSD. Since SSDs have a limited read/write cycle (which has gotten recently better with NAND and win 7 TRIM -garbage collection- but still) On the other hand, reading files from SSD is much faster than from HDD.
I even disable my DVD/Blueray devices to stop them polling every sec and causing a SSD write/read!
I do not edit audio/video much so I have no actual sense of how much faster it may be using SSD- but my point was regarding to wear and tear of SSD- especialy if i paid 500$+ for a large one

yes there is almost a 50$ increase in price ! ! 1 terra was around 80 to 90 $ now it is 130 to 140 and i dont know why this sudden increase !
